I've heard the term lots, but what exactly is Skype?    Is it like some sort of fab futuristic video phone doohicky thru the computer?

    *butts in*  It is a program you can download that allows you to talk over your wi-fi with or without video for free.  YOu can even buy phones that use it to dial, so you don't have to sit at your computer.  It is awesome!

    Yes and it is free. The worst invention ever for daughters who try to avoid their mothers as much as possible.

    It's really good for when you have a LO and your family is far away, but annoying when you want to avoid your mom :P
