How much did you spend on your child's big boy mattress set??

I just bought Joe's full sized mattress set and kind of feel bad bc the sales guy kept trying to up-sell me....he's TWO, he doesn't need a $1K mattress set! I ended up spending $300 on a set that is just your run-of-the-mill mattress set. No pillow tops or anything like that. Heck, he's just going to jump on it and what does a 2 yr old need a pillow top for?! Anyways, mom guilt. Ugh!

  • We just bought a mattress (the bed has bunkie boards which works like a box spring).  The mattress was $340ish.  DH wanted to buy something that would last a long time.

  • I thought about the bunkie board, but the set I got was on sale, so I figured I'd spring for the box as well....if he continuously falls off, I may get the bunky board.

  • you're a better mom than I am!  Mar's big set will probably come from Ikea!
  • I think J's was $200ish.

  • we bought 2 matress sets at the same time- one for T and one for our guest room. we spent ~$300 on T's and about $600 on the guest bed, which my grandmother was occupying full time then.

when we broke down the guest room to make it in to a nursery for M, we put the matress from T's room in the attic and used the better one for his room. after just a couple months it already started to sag in the middle even though the bed frame has full slats.

the good news is if  yours does the same (and it could be as much manufacturer as price point) you can get another one only slightly more $ and still spend less than this guy was trying to sell you...

  • We got Avery's at Costco (twin mattress and box spring).  It is a super comfy set and we paid ~$300.

We got two twin mattresses for her bed and the trundle.  It paid about $270 for each mattress (not box spring).  It was actually a great price because the MSRP was $500, but it was on sale for $325, but we negotiated down to $270 each since we bought 2.  It's plush top and VERY comfortable.  We got a bunkie board for $70.  We wanted a mattress that would last her for at least 7-8 years.  She won't be getting a full size until she's in middle school.  And we wanted something good for the trundle because sometimes we end up sleeping on it when she's sick and needs us around.  I think the full size was around $450 on sale.
