wedding etiquette question

Rich and I were just invited, very last minute, to attend the wedding of a friend of a friend this Sunday, because some people have backed out on the bride, and she has plates already paid for.

Although this is a huge faux pas for some, I don't mind, because I never would have expected to have been invited to this persons wedding in the first place, and she was very adamant that we are not to bring a gift, that we are just to come, eat the food, and drink the booze that's already been paid for.

Granted, I cannot really stand this woman, as she posted updates on FB as though she is the only person to ever get married, she is a thunder stealer, and is probably the tackiest, crassest person I know. We are going to go, since our best couple friend will be there, and WTF, free food and booze, but we are pretty sure we are going to get them a wedding gift anyway.

Normally, I give cash, about $200 for the 2 of us, but it this sitch, I don't think so. What price range would you limit your gift to? I still have to check her registry.

    I'd probably buy a platter or something for about $100.

    I suspect that it will actually look pretty classy, with the exception of the laser light show that may or may not take place once the dancing begins.

    This is where it is all going down. Looks pretty decent.
