Lately I have been watching A Baby Story and Birth Day. I have noticed that a lot of the babies are being put directly on the mom's tummy right after delivery. I noticed that they didn't clean LO off at all and the moms are cuddling and kissing them when they still have the vernix, cottage cheese looking stuff all over them. I know it's my baby and it's not something that I should be worried about, but it really grosses me out. Im afraid I am going to be grossed out at LO if they give her to me that way. Does anyone else feel this way or am I nuts?

You won't be grossed out, guarantee it.
FWIW, in that moment, I didn't even realize she was covered in all kinds of stuff, when I looked at the pics I was amazed at how much she really did have on her.

Well, for me...they look slippery when they're covered in all that stuff! I'm sorry if this sounds really stupid, but more than anything, I'm afraid that I'd drop the baby my first time holding him/her!

Sorry, I had to giggle at you using that word
I am not really concerned about it. In the moment, I don't think it will really matter to me.
I am sure I will be such an emotional ball of tears...I probably won't even notice a little slime and gook.

I feel the opposite- the second she's free, I want my LO to be plopped up on me! I don't care what she's covered in! I want to be the first one that holds her, even if it means cleaning her off. I asked about it on my tour and at my hospital, its whatever your preference is- as the baby is close to being out, a nurse kinda drapes you in some blankets/towels and they put the baby up on them and you can help clean them off. Honestly, I don't think I'll be necessarily kissing her while she's still covered in all the juices, but I'll definitely be touching her and stuff.
this and even more importantly (to me personally) I have found tons of research on the benefits on immediate, prolonged skin to skin contact, they can do whatever they need, including wiping her off, to while she is in my arms/on my chest for at least the first hour after she is born.
Just thinking of it as nature's baby lotion, which is all it basically is. It'll get absorbed into the baby's skin in a few minutes and leave it nice and moisturized, heh.
I don't think I'll be kissing her covered in it, but if it's possible to be handed her right away, I'll definitely take her any way she comes!
