storing BM

Apparently I didn't read the whole memo- can someone outline how long BM is good stored in different ways?  i.e. thawed in fridge, thawed at room temp, just stuck in fridge, mixing bottles (and apparently dont shake them).  Thanks!

Re: storing BM

  • Everyone has read / heard a different thing, but I try to go by the 333 rule: 3 hours at room temp, 3 days in fridge, and 3 months in freezer.  I mix once in a while I've begun pumping two different ones within a day of each other or whatever.  And I do shake the bottles to get it to a single consistency.

  • Freshly expressed milk can be at room temp for 4 - 6 hours. In the fridge for up to 7 days. If you freeze it in a fridge freezer for 3 months and a deep freezer for 6 - 12 months. Once it's thawed it's good in the fridge for 24 hours.

And, they say they are very strict on this.  I have seen where when you first pump it, it can be stored for 6-8 hours at room temp.
