Can you ladies help me out? My doctor told me I could start using Zantac or Prilosec (not sure of the spellings, sorry!). I wanted to know if you any of you had used either one or both and which one you thought worked the best? Thanks!
I always start with a glass of milk and if that doesnt help then I take a zantac 75 and it does the trick. Im just not a pill taker unless I really need to
I used to be on Nexium and when I conceived our fertility specialist said that I should have my Dr. switch to Prilosec, so I did. Although apparently both Nexium and Prilosec are in the same prenatal category but I did what the fertility specialist suggested and switched. That said, it's supposed to be ok in pregnancy and while BFing. Not sure if any of this applies to OTC doses - good luck!

I've tried nearly every kind of antacid out there and the only thing that has worked is the Prilosec OTC. I'm basically heartburn free when I remember to take it in the morning. I've found too that I only really need to take it every other day and it still works. Zantac did nothing for me.
I've been prescribed 300mg of Zantac at night by my doctor for severe acid reflux. Mine is at the point though that it's borderline GERD. I've had it since my early teens.

i believe that if you don't have pre-existing heartburn/reflux issues that trying zantac first is preferred and believed to be generally 'safer' for pregnancy and bfing. however, if it doesn't work for you, prilosec is also acceptable - just less 'preferred'. i've had a GERD diagnosis and been on meds for years - i was able to stay on them for pregnancy but originally they were going to try and get me onto zantac instead for bfing. it was a big fat fail. so after some research by my midwife and the lactation consultant they decided it was okay for me to stay on my meds.
good luck! heartburn/reflux is my nemesis these days - even ON my meds and supplementing with tums so i def. feel your pain!
