St. Vincents girls...if you had a section

who was your doctor?  We were hoping to get June 9th for our section day (if baby girl doesn't come on her own) but my doctor will be on vacation that week which puts us looking at the 14th.  She said I was of course welcome to have someone else in the practice (Bham OBGYN) do it but I'm not 100% sure how I feel about that.

Anyone care to recommend your doctor?

  • Dr. David Damrich did mine.  He also did my SIL for both my niece and nephews.  My mother loves to say that the same doc has delivered all her grandkids.

I like most of the docs I've seen at B'ham OB so if it had come down to it, I would have been ok with another one doing it.  Dr. D had been my GYN for 7 years prior to pregnancy and of course my OB, so of course I was glad it was him.

Still, it's really more about the pre and  post-partum care, in which case, everyone I encountered at St. V's was great.  The scrub nurse, who was in the OR during the surgery, was especially memorable to me because I was very scared and emotional - I cried pretty much from the time they rolled me in there to about 30 mins in recovery.  She kept talking to me and saying things to try and make me laugh, asking about the baby name and stuff like that.  I really appreciated her.

Sorry I got so long winded!  Geesh, all you wanted was a rec!

ETA: And since you're already a mom I'm sure you already know all that about the post partum care! Sorry again!

I agree with this...in the big scheme of things the doctor is not nearly as important as the support staff.

  • Heath was my primary OB but McKee was on call the night I went into labor (Przybysz assisted).  The circumstances of my delivery were not at all typical, but I think a lot of McKee's decisions regarding my section made a HUGE difference in Sarah's health at birth (in particular, the fact that she had no hemorraghes on her brain).  Obviously, I think the absolute WORLD of him :-)

  • Dr. Heath did my c/s, and although I was unhappy about having the surgery she did a great job.  She is a personal friend as well though.  She was assisted by Dr. Prsybyz (sp?) who I have seen a handful of times and also liked her.

I have also seen Dr. McKee in the past, he performed both of my D&C's with my previous m/c's and I think he is great...Dr. Heath highly recommended him and from what I understand he is highly respected in the obgyn community.

I think you are in pretty good hands with any of those doctors and agree that the nurses and staff make all the difference in the world.  Good luck and please let us know how which doctor you end up with!
