mini crib?

I was dead set on a convertible crib at 1st but the more I think about it a full/queen would be way too big for the kiddos room when they get to that point.

anywho.

I'm looking at something that converts to a twin. Does anyone have a mini crib?  pros? Cons?

Re: mini crib?

  • I'm curious how much smaller a mini crib is than a regular crib.  Dylan moves all around his crib, and I don't see him being very comfy in anything smaller as he continues to grow.  The other thing I'd wonder about is finding sheets, bumper, etc that fit it.
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!
    BFP with no treatment!

  • I'd also wonder about the size.  Cooper can reach from side to side with his arms now.

Mom is making all that for me =)

I *think* it's just shorter length wise not width wise.  I can only research so much at school though. Every other site is blocked.

I lied. It's about 6 inches different width wise.

    *sigh*

  • I've never heard of a mini crib, but don't they make a regular crib that converts to a twin?  If I remember right, the side pieces (as opposed to the long back piece) become the head and/or foot boards.  Or did I misunderstand your question??

I think they are the same size as a portable crib, my mom has one of those for Cooper at her house.  It works, but it is not very roomy.
My big boy is bounding towards 4! Baby brother coming in October!

I believe you're right.  You could also get a lower priced crib without the intention to convert it and buy a twin sized bed down the road.

I'm thinking this might be the option I go with if I can't find a full size crib that goes into a twin.

This is what we're doing.  We are going with the Graco Lauren convertible.  It's very affordable and we'll use as a crib, then toddler bed for sure but then we will likely store it & get a twin for her to use as her childhood bed.

  • I think grow with you beds are good in theory, but I have yet to meet someone who actually used one until their kid was even six or seven.  Most kids do a lot of damage to their crib, not just from teething, but from daily wear and tear, that they get pretty beat up after a few years.

So we opted for a bed that just converts to a toddler bed.  It was only $300 and if she uses it for three years, we figure we got our moneys worth out of it.  Plus, I know me, and I'm going to get sick of looking at the same bed for years at a time, LOL.

The other consideration is if you want any more kids...are you going to want to get them a whole new crib, or would you rather them inherit the crib you already have then just get a twin bed for the older kiddo?

I'm still working up the courage to birth this one ;-)
