There is a baby shower for a girl at work this friday and a few of us are going to go in together to get her one of her larger items.
I was purusing her 3 registries to see what she had it what price range so I could decide where to go.
She has registered for the same types of items at all three places, and in some, more than one item. Like between the three store she has registered for 5 high chairs, 4 swings and 6 travel systems.
Which one does she really want? It seems like a waist for me to go and buy and haul highchair or travel system from the store to work for her shower only for her to return it for one of the other 4 or 5 things she registered for.
Opening stuff is so much more fun than a gift card ... but I'm not really sure what to do here.
Re: This registry has me confused
I would say no one has schooled her on the etiquette of registries. Some new mom's just get overzealous with these things, you know?
I would buy the high chair, for instance, with the best ratings. If she doesn't like it, she has to deal with returning it and it'll teach her a valuable lesson about registries.
Also, bear in mind, some people need multiple items. Like, my mom keeps our children, so we did need two high chairs, etc. So, it could be a somewhat similar situation, but still doesn't warrant six travel systems (unless she's Kate Gosselin).
This was what I thought when I saw the two highchairs on the Target registry, one was like $20 cheaper. But then I saw two more on the Wal-Mart registry, and another on the Baby Depot registry ... just screams over kill to me.
My little sister did the same thing. On her one registry, she registered for seven travel systems, five high chairs, another five car seats, eight bases (?!), and nine (NINE!!!) bedding sets. Guess what everyone gave her? Giftcards. She proved at her shower how selfish she was - she announced she would use all the giftcards to buy a Wii.
I'd also like to throw in that we live in Oklahoma - she registered under her boyfriends last name and in the state of WA, and just forgot to mention that to anyone. She didn't understand why nobody could find it.
This is a work shower so invitations aren't really sent out, but flyers have been posted and it is scheduled for this friday.
I guess it will just depend on how much everyone gives me and I will just buy what I can. It just kind of takes the fun out of it knowing that she isn't gonig to be excited about it or absolutely love it you know.
A lot of people don't know you can buy bases separately. Friends of mine bought two identical infant car seats for their two cars, and were kicking themselves later when they learned they could have saved $100 bucks by just getting a second base installed.
I have no explanation for 5 high chairs, though. Maybe she just wants to give people the option of shopping at their choice of store?
Yeah, I don't have much of an explanation for that.
We registered for our two car seats at BRU, but we also registered for them at a baby boutique. The baby boutique is near where I live, but the Babies R Us is much farther away, so I wanted to give people the option. Also, I seriously doubt we get 4 car seats! During the shower, I'm just hoping for one, but I'd love getting two for the twins. And if we do get all four, I'll gladly take two back to Babies R Us and trade them for stuff we didn't get.
Also, we have one mattress for the cribs already, so we only need one more. When we went to BRU, they had two mattresses out of stock, so I couldn't see them. Since BRU gives you 10% off to complete your registry, we scanned the two that were out of stock and one that was in stock. Again, if no one buys a mattress, we'll at least have choices when we got back to buy it ourselves.
