This is my first pregnancy and wonder if you see stretch marks as they occur or do they show up later? So far I do not see evidence of any but thought I would get your advice. Thanks!
Its genetic- ask your mom if she had them. If she did, then you probably will too. I have stretch marks from my first DD still, lol. I can't avoid them- no matter what lotion or cream I use. It makes for not-so-pretty belly photos.
Some women go through their entire pregnancy without seeing any and then they pop up after delivery. But if you are genetically prone to them then it's pretty much impossible to avoid. Cocoa butter may help reduce the appearance but that's about it.
I didnt get one stretch mark until two weeks before delivery with my son.I used lotions and creames and everything the whole pregnancy nothing helps if your prone.
my mom warned me that she got them on her inner thigh, hips, and boobs. what do ya know!? i am starting to see them on my inner thigh and boobs! i've had them on my hips since the year after i got out of highschool. uck.
I am just over 20 weeks and do not have any stretch marks, as of now. I asked my mom if she had them with any of her pregnancies and she said no, so I'm hoping I follow in her footsteps!!

This is exactly what happened to me. I just knew I was in the clear!

I just started seeing them pop up this past weekend and I have pretty tough skin. I lotion every night. So far they are really low, so I am hoping they dont spread to far..who knows, I still have a long ways to go.
As PPs have mentioned it is genetic and it almost seem like lotions do not really do much to prevent or reduce them. However make sure you drink plenty of water. If you keep well hydrated, your skin will also stay hydrated and you are less likely to get a whole bunch of them even if genetically you are in the hole.
My grandma had a few and she had 2 kids. My mom had 7 kids and she barely has any (maybe one on two on her hip area). So far I have none but I am drinking water like crazy. Hoping to stay in the clear (fingers crossed).
Mine didn't start showing up until about 27 weeks with DS. Once one sprouted, many followed every day. Before I knew it, I was covered from my belly button to my upper thighs (though I think the ones below my hairline and upper thighs weren't there until after I pushed DS out (sorry if TMI)).
Re: Stretch marks?
I had none throughout my pregnancy. They showed up after I gave birth.
