I like Sebastian, it's not an unusual name, but it's not common either. Alastair is ok but sounds a little too preppy for my taste. I just don't like the sound of Arthur.
For those with a son named Alastair or Alister, do you call him by his full name? I don't like the idea of "Al." Also, do you emphasize the "air" in Alastair? I read on another board that it is said with the same ending as Alister.

Yep, Alastair is just Alastair, pronounced AL-is-ter. I guess we could call him Alec or Al if we wanted a nickname. It's really not that long of a name, 3 syllables ... my DD is Natalie (also 3 syllables) and I don't intend to use a nickname with her either. When I was pg with A I had the same thoughts as you that I don't want him called Al, but now I honestly wouldn't mind it, it would even be kind of cute, but I don't think anyone's even tried to call him Al before.
