I've been getting some really bad back pain especially in the lower back. It's been getting worse and worse.
The worst I've felt it was on Saturday night. I wore flip-flops to clean the house and organize some of our new shelving units. I didn't think it would be so bad, but then at night I wore heels to chaperone the 8th grade prom. Part of my duties involved sitting for long periods of time at my post which was an ottoman (no back support). Well, that night I couldn't sleep b/c of the back pain and I could barely walk without feeling a sharp pain from my tail bone to my lower back.
It's much better today, but I'm trying to figure out if it's due to the flip-flops, high heels, standing for long periods, sitting for long periods, or if it's just a combination of all of the above. Any suggestions?

I'm guessing prob a mixture, but def the ottoman didn't help. Those can be uncomfortable for an extended period. I've been getting tons of lower back pains, but I spoke to a nurse and she told me it can be from actually laying on my back. I should always lay on a side, and if possible w/ a pillow between my knees. Since she told me this, the pain has subsided quite a bit!

it could be a combo of all things. is the pain normal all around back pain or knife stabbing back pain in one area of your back? i dont want to scare you, but at 18 weeks when i was pg with my 1st i had knife stabbing back pain, it was so bad i thought i was having contractions and dh took me to the ER. they did an mri and found a cyst growing btwn my liver and kidney that was causing the pain. 3 mths after having mady i had to get the cyst (which was about 6 cm big) removed. if all else fails, always call your dr and explain the pain.
It's always good to call your dr to be safe. I've had a lot of back pain with this pregnancy and it is worse when I am very active or sitting for long periods of time. I've found that the heating pad works wonders and use it every night to relieve the pain. You can also take Tylenol if it is really bad. I prop my feet up on a small stool when I'm sitting at my desk at work and make sure to get up and walk around often.
Heels and flip flops don't offer much support and that can lead to increased back pain also. I had to retire the heels very early this preg. :-(
Wish I had a magic cure to share with you. Hope it feels better soon.
Aw hun, I feel your pain. Obviously I have no experience with pregnancy back pain but I find that my back pain triggers are really flat shoes or heels, walking for longer than 30 minutes and lifting anything heavy. Since I'm trying to avoid taking medication too, I use my heating pad a lot and that helps, and so do topical anesthetic creams like Tiger Balm and Bengay - check with your doctor but I think they are ok to use during pregnancy.
