OT/Feeding Therapy?

DS was referred by his pedi and the GI for a eval with OT/feeding therapy. We have our first appt next week. I was just wondering what to expect. TIA!

What, exactly, are the problems he's having with feeding? I ask b/c Jayden has sensory issues, so he refused certain textures in his mouth. However, he also has Celiac Disease, so he was (and still is) very defensive about what goes into his mouth b/c it hurts his tummy. Before the CD was diagnosed his GI wanted us to put him in feeding therapy, with feeding therapy basically "forcing" him to eat

Our OT did 2 sessions, and I cried both times b/c he screamed in terror. I told them to stop the feeding therapy and I found a new GI dr and he was diagnosed with the CD. If he has known GI issues, ask to have genetic testing done prior to putting him in feeding therapy, just to be safe.

We had several evals, and basically they just asked a lot of questions and then watched us feed Dean. Afterwards they talked about what they thought and made recommendations.

Nate's issue is his tone around his mouth so our therapy consists of working out those muscles and adapting our feeding style to give him a better "workout".

We start with stimulation around the mouth to wake-up the muscles and the OT has a vibrating spoon that Nate finds very fun and clamps his little mouth around immediately. We have also tried frozen spoons and making him close his mouth so that he learns to swish the food sideways with his tongue instead of pushing it out.
