lol- i would like to think we are both realists. Ahhh gotta love labels. We walk middle of the road- and we see things in the middle- therefore when good things really happen its better than we expected- and when bad things happen we are prepared and accepting.
I would like to think i am more on the optimist spectrum of realism. lol. I have just learned not to expect much out of things. (especially when it comes to extended family) and when they do something good- its like WOW- that was impressive. lol. and when they disappoint- i am already prepared for it and its very ehh- no shocker. KWIM?
I'd say for the most part we are pretty optimistic people but both have our "thing" that tends to make us be a little pessimistic. His= money. Mine= issues surrounding his kids from a previous relationship. But we are both totally aware and try to be more optimistic (have more faith) regarding both.
I am an optimist, and he is a pessimist. I can be overly optimistic to a fault, and he is very analytical and tends to expect the worst a lot of the times, so we definitely have some fun battles. ;-)

DH is an optimist and I'm a realist. and I do mean that. I see the positive and negative. Sadly, DH interprets that as me being negative b/c you generally have to plan a little in case of the negative and I like to be prepared. I don't think the worst, just want to be aware of possibilities so we can make a bad situation better if it comes to that Its a very sensitive point with me so there are always sparks when he suggests I'm negative!
It really depends what the subject is. But I would say overall, he's more optimistic than I am. The older I get, the more crap I see and realize how much people really can suck.
I get really frustrated and defeatist over the little, daily things. DH often needs to step in and say, "this isn't a big deal, you can do it" (like assemble a play kitchen, or deal with a unexpected expense). He's a short-term optimist.
I am a big-picture optimist, while he is the pessimist. I tend to believe that I can do anything, and also really believe in the
potential of other people. I come up with big plans then make them happen. DH will always say, "we can't do this because of X, Y, and Z," which drives me crazy! There is always a way, and anyway, working toward a dream defines who you are in a good way, even if you fail.

I completely agree with this! It drives me crazy when DH calls me negative when it's because he is thinking best case scenario all.the.time. I can be both as things could go either way, I just don't get my hopes up or think the worst. I just like to be prepared:)
Re: You and your H: Optimists or pessimists?
i think we are both optimists. He tends to be more pessimistic then me, but he is still an optimistic person.
HOWEVER - he is a Republican and I'm a Democrat which can make for VERY interesting, heated and not so fun conversations.
THIS
DH is an optimist 99% of the time.
I dunno if I'd say I'm a pessimist necessarily but I'm nowhere as optimistic as he is...
Cynical is a better word for it, I think

We are the same way. DH is a HUGE pessimist.
This is so us, ha ha

I think we both consider ourselves realists.
DH is more optimistic than I am, but he's hardly blindly optimistic. I don't walk around in a cloud of "boo hiss" but I'm definitely not Annie either.
