Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

taking a toddler to a hotel

how does the whole sleeping thing work?

We're all going to be in one room and if she sees us there's no way she's going to fall alseep.  I'm not going to bed at 7:00, nor do i feel like I should have to spend the night in the bathroom playing scrabble with DH or reading quietly on the floor.  Any suggestions?

  • What about Monopoly or Life? Lol

I have no idea. We are going to be in a hotel for about 10 days in June. So I've been pondering this same thought for awhile.

  • We stay in suites.  Unfortunately it's more expensive, but we save money by staying in for dinners (many suites have kitchenettes, decent enough to make meals).
  • Stay in Embassy Suites.  They are all two room suites and not much more than a normal hotel.  Absolutely worth it.  And they all have full cooked to order breakfast buffets included in the cost of the room.  It's the only hotel we stay in with our DD right now.
  • We don't get a choice of hotel or rooms, DH's company is paying for it since its a business trip. Boo.

we've also had DD's "baby tent" (the Kidco Peapod) in bathrooms and showers when we didn't have the suites.

Could you ask about an upgrade and pay the difference?

Yikes, that's a tough situation! good luck and have fun!

  • I've stayed with DD in a hotel twice in the last few months. She will go to sleep in the room even if it's light and did okay. She did wake up at night and then I needed to co-sleep with her for a few hours.

This.  DH has to go away for work and they told us we could that if we wanted.

Otherwise, what we've had to do was darken the room and lay down with D until he fell asleep.  Once he was asleep we could turn on the TV or talk quietly, but we were at his mercy until then, and he went to bed almost 2 hours later because of the setting.

Honestly, I'd consider forking out the money for an additional room and get them adjoining if they won't pay for an upgrade.

  • I am new here but I just had this experience so I wanted to write.  We just stayed in a hotel room for a week in Disney with DD.  We set up the pack n play in the corner of the room between the curtain and the bed (there were 2 queen beds in the room).  I brought some large binder clips with me a rigged a blanket to the bed post, bed spread and the curtain so it made a tent around the pack n play blocking her view from us.  We were even able to have the TV on low with no problem.  I suggest bringing some large binder clips and I am sure you can figure out something.  Good luck. I was dreading this part of the trip and it worked out much better that I thought.

  • We have stayed in hotel rooms quite a few times with DS (he's 21.5 months), we mostly stay at Holiday Inn Express.  The HI Express will give you a travel crib (and they are not bad) for free, we have found that the travel crib fits into the bathroom perfectly, so we just roll the crib into the bathroom and DS goes to sleep.  Before we go down for the night we pull the crib out of the bathroom.
  • We just went away w/ our 19 month DD for one night and it wasn't easy!

We put her PNP in the corner and tried to put chairs in front of it to block us but she kept saying mama/dada over and over. I tried walking around the room and she fell asleep on me but the minute I put her in the PNP, she woke up. I tried that several times.  I finally put her in the bed with us and she slept with us all night--we never do that at home!

I have heard of trying to hang blankets around the crib, putting the crib in the bathroom, etc....

Good Luck! Hopefully, you can tire your LO out and they will sleep.
