Since I'm new here - I thought I'd start a poll! (whee!)
How do you get through the day? I'm particularly interested in your experiences when your babes are small like mine.
1. I feel like I'm waiting for them to nap and then waiting for them to wake up. At the end of the day I'm just waiting for bedtime.
2. I have a set schedule or to-do list. This helps me have structure to my day and the days go by faster. (give examples :-)
3. I just do whatever my baby / child wants and I love every minute!!
4. other - what do you do?

Re: SAHMS - How do you get through the day??
I'm with Stacey. I'm in between 2 and 3. I try and have as much of a schedule as possible, but I know not each day will go as planned. I have a "for the most part" schedule, but it's not always as easy as it sounds.
For example, today I had planned on getting my workout in as soon as DD napped. Well she went down an hour later than usual so I was starving by than, so I just ate my lunch, and now I need it to settle down before I get moving. She may wake up by than, so that means I either have to figure something out later tonight when she's out for the night or wait till tomorrow.
I am a combo of the last two options.
For the most part my DD was on a schedule but there were days where that schedule was broken. You just have to be flexible. There were days when DD just didn't want to take a nap when she 'usually' took a nap. I think as long as you try to keep somewhat of a rough schedule, it will be easier in the long run.

Ditto. I also agree with everyone that said a combo of 2 and 3 is what works for us. We have a schedule as far as a morning activity planned 3-4 mornings a week, and then lunch/nap, then the late afternoons are usually free to do what we want. Our new thing is grabbing a bucket and heading outside to collect rocks and flowers. :-)
This exactly. Some bad days I feel like I'm just waiting for nap or bedtime. Some days we just go with the flow and it's great. Most days are somewhat scheduled, but it's not set in stone -- there are regular things we do (like story time, playgroups, errands) and she has a fairly regular nap time. But things change a lot with little people!
With ages from 13 to 2, my day is a crapshoot.
7:30 up and off to school
11:30 p/u 6yo from school
lunch for 6yo and 2yo, maybe nap for 2yo
2:30 13yo home starved and millitant
3:30 10yo home starved and millitant
6yo picks fights with 10yo and 13yo because he hasn't had anyone who could argue with him until then.
2yo screaming at everyone
everyone doing their own things as loudly as possible (computer, Wii, radio, tv, you name it.)
6:00 dinner (complete with everyone whining about it)
random fighting until bedtime at 9:30
School is out in two weeks...god help me.
The only schedule I have right now is for me to be up and showered and dressed before the baby gets up.
It makes my days 190% better.
I have a set schedule but I think the twins helped get me so organized, then my last little one did as well. There are some days I don't even want to get up I am so tired from my schooling, and their activities, but I think they wont be this age forever and push on thru..lol
Some days drag on and some go fast...everyday on my calender is covered...uuuggghhh
Personally, I am a crazy scheduler. Sometimes I see my posts of my daily schedules and get embarrassed because it looks so controlled. But actually, while I like having the schedule, I'm a little more go with the flow. The whole point of being home is to care for DD and spend time with her.
Oh, how I do love bedtime, though!
I wing it. Every.single.day. Today I was going to wash towels and the sheets for our bed. Then my cousin sent me a text to see what we were doing. She brought her 4 year old out and the kids played all afternoon while my cousin and I watched them and caught up:)
I rarely plan the day unless we need to go somewhere.

Ditto. I have more of a routine, and a few things run on a schedule but I'm not afraid to deviate from it, which I do a lot. I need the freedom to fly by the seat of my pants too.
We do the best with a relaxed schedule. Now that DS is a bit older, we have a set schedule for snacks, meals and sleep times. I have stuff I try to get done in the mornings and other stuff in the afternoons. It gives me something to shoot for.
When DS was really little our schedule was much less set by the clock. He needed to eat every 2-3 hours and took 30 min- 1 hour 15 min for a feeding. Lots of time for variability. I had things I tried to do with DS every day (tummy time, go outside for a walk or for play, read stories...) which helped to give some structure to our day.
I'm in this boat..when I wake up in the morning while I pee- I make a list of what i would like to accomplish but if it doesnt get done it gets moved to the next day...
