So , EVERYONE told me not to buy 0-3/newborn clothes bc I will be getting so many items at my shower. So I have been focusing mostly on the 3-12 months range and occasionally bought smaller. Well , it's after my shower and almost ALL my cltohes were 3-9 months, which I am so grateful for....... and now I am off to shop. But I keep thinking how much should I buy? ( how much is too much) She will be a summer baby. Both my husband and I were 8 lbs and my father was 10 so I am thinking she won't be tiny for wicked long. What are on you list for must haves fo ryou newborn?
Re: baby clothes
My son was 6lbs 13 ozs and he wore newborn for the first three weeks and then 0-3 months for a good 3 months after that.
I haven't decided how much of each size I am getting for this little one. I'm not purchasing much in the 3-6mth catagory b/c I am waiting for fall clothes to come out.
We do have quite a few NB sized clothes, but that is because we were told we would have a preemie due to a complication that has thankfully resolved itself. If I were buying for a full term baby, I would have just bought a few things for a summer NB because I am assuming that it will be hot, and LO will wear mostly just a diaper and onesie.
When DD was a newborn and still had her umbilical stump, I had her in those little side snap t-shirts, pants, and socks. She was a July baby, but it's cold in the air conditioning. Once she lost the umbilical cord, she wore onesies and pants and socks most of the time. Sometimes I'd put her in sleepers/sleep and plays (the footie pajama things), but not usually at night because they made diaper changes more difficult in the dark with the swaddle.
I'm a huge fan of the little cotton baby pants. Super comfy, easy to pull down to check the diaper, etc. Some of the newborn ones come with little feet, so you don't have to get separate socks. Also, if you can find shirts with long sleeves with the little cuffs that fold over to cover the hands, definitely get them!
DD was 8 pounds 5 ounces, but she was long and skinny, so she wore newborn for over a month.
If I were buying now for a newborn, I'd get 6 side snap shirts (3 short sleeved, 3 long sleeved), 6 onesies, 6 cotton pants, and 6 Trumpette socks (expensive, but they're adorable and the only thing that stays on), and 3 sleepers. That's at least enough to get you through a few weeks. You'd need to do baby laundry every other day or every third day -- if you don't have your own washer/dryer, definitely get more!
