When to begin gathering CD stash?

I have several cousins who are CDing (one actually is on the staff of the Real Diaper Association) and so I know in a few weeks when our news is out I can ask them, but in the meantime...

When is a good time to begin gathering a CD stash? I know we'll be CDing, although I'm struggling to decide which would be more cost-effective in the long run (prefolds and covers or one-size all-in-ones).

When did you start building your CD stash? I've looked online, done a lot of research about different brands/types... just can't decide when to actually start purchasing!

I started gathering my stash at 8 wks pg. It's never too early. Start being on the lookout for good deals, and it will all start falling into place.

Yep, I started around 8 weeks too. I buy things as I find a good deal, and that way the spending is spaced out. I'd say my stash is over half way bought by now.

We started at about 7-8 weeks. If there's a sale that's when we'd stock up, saved a ton that way even though baby was still cookin' for a while longer.

Agreed with all PP - I started around 12 weeks just hunting down the best bargins...we probably spent about $200 on CD's overall, and I never felt the loss of cash because we strung it out over several months.

I bought most of mine before we were TTC. I kind of regret it now though because I changed my mind about which way we will go (prefolds vs AIO).

Lurker #3 here! I just started building my stash (it's gotta happen soon, right?!) and I'm buying off spots and some seconds. I figure this way I'll reduce my chances of having to pay full price for anything! I have 5 BG organic AIOs and 11 one-size fitteds so far.

I started buying things (used) halfway through pregnancy. Still found some great deals. Didn't buy anything full price except one dozen GMD prefolds.

I bought some inserts when I was 6 weeks pregnant--it helped make it more real for me. Since then, I've given myself a budget of $40 a month to make no more than three purchases, and at least one of those has to be used. It's helped me gather a fair number of different things without breaking the bank, which will be very nice when the Bugbear shows up out here.

I think that if we'd been actively seeking a baby, I might have started purchasing after we'd made that decision.

I have been researching for months, but just made my first purchases last week (30 weeks), when I purchased a few AIOs and NB covers. I'm glad I have waited because I found an awesome deal on used NB KL0s and I changed my plan from prefolds to all fitted for the NB stage because the deal was so good. I've also restrained from purchasing a lot of the AIOs because I have some on my registry which I'm hoping will be purchased for my shower coming up.
