baby tooth brushes

Tyler has 2 teeth on bottom and 2 about to come in on top and was curious what kind of tooth brush and tooth paste that I should use.

I plan on taking him in at one for his first checkup.

Re: baby tooth brushes

  • I think most ped dentists caution against using toothpaste until they can spit it back out.  If you feel the need to use toothpaste, use a floride free kids version and you don't need to use much at all.

We just brush with a kids toothbrush, no paste, and have her drink some water afterward.

Good idea about the toothpaste. So I can just get a small brush to get the food off then, right?

When did you take yours to the dentist for the first time?

  • My kids' dentist won't see them until they are 18 months unless there is a problem.  Joshua was 3 and Gabriel was 18 months.

I use the Oral B training Gel.  It is fluoride free.  I just use the brushes that say 6-12 months for G.

We use this little banana toothbrush. H still doesn't have any teeth so I just let her gum on it during bath time, she LOVES it. Not sure when I'll take her to the dentist for the first time.

  • most dentists rec the first visit between a year and 18 months.  they won't actually do anything then, but it's just to get them used to the process and the idea of going to the dentist.
  • Oral B makes a toothpaste (fluoride free) and a little brush that goes on your finger.  That is what we used for several months.

My dentist doesn't see kids until 3.  Kohen got his first cleaning at 3 years old (now goes every 6 months) and I will do the same with Kamryn.

  • my pedi says that it's really overkill to take them to the denist before 2 unless there's a problem.  She also suggested using a toothbrush and water (no toothpaste).
