i have a 2 wk old and she cries ALL the time. it's so disheartening. i cry a lot too. we're experimenting w/ Gripe Water, Mylicon, my diet (i'm nursing), etc and nothing seems to be working. anyone else out there in my shoes? any advice? tia!
My advice is call your pedi asap. We did at 5 weeks after DS cried for 5 1/2 hours straight the night before. We found out it was reflux and got it under control.
Your pedi may be able to give suggestions to calm your poor baby. Also, please know that it is ok to put your baby down for a minute or two to regain your composure in another room.
I know it is hard to find time but...get the book/DVD Happiest Baby on the Block...extremely helpful!!! DVD is short but book has more detail. I borrowed it from the library...you won't be sorry!!
I feel your pain...DD was a hot mess for the first three weeks. It's recently just taken a turn for the better, she fusses a lot still, but I think it's a combination of getting the hang of breastfeeding and learning her cues. I say this because I thought for sure we had a colicky baby too, she cried and fussed all day long, literally giving us only a five minute break here and there (unless she was asleep for a couple hours, and even then would wake crying for no reason).
Before you think it's colic, is she consolable at all? Or does she really cry and cry for hours on end with no break? Definitely talk to your pedi either way, but ours wasn't willing to call it colic or reflux or anything until she got to six weeks to see if she grew out of it, and in our case, it looks like she is getting better. Good luck!
We've had some luck with HBOTB techniques as well...I use a Sleep Sheep on the "ocean" sound to calm him - it usually makes him fall asleep...I turn it up as loud as he is crying/screaming so he hears it.
