backpacks for daycare/MDO

so we have to send lunches/blankets/change of clothes/etc with Mar and she'll need some sort of bag to take it all in.

Does she need an actual backpack or are we okay with just a tote bag?

I'm leaning towards a zipper top canvas tote from LL Bean, size medium I think.  If you have one, any input on these bags would be great too.

  • Kaitlyn has a lil backpack this year, but last year she had a tote bag.  Either are fine! (particularly where she'll be... If her class is like K's, they have a lil area where all the bags are hung on their own hooks... so a tote or backpack would be fine)

  • she'll be in the honeybees class..so I imagine they're all set up the same way.

I totally forgot your kiddos went to St M's - I'm going to send you a msg on FB about something there!

Emmy has a small PBK backpack and fits her perfectly.  it's the same pattern as the lunchbox...the pink elephant.  We put a set of clothes, wipes, etc...in it and she carries it with her lunch box on her own like a big girl.

  • Can you not leave the clothes and blankets there?  J just has a tote bag that I put his lunch and water in.  His nap mat and change of clothes stay in his cubbie.

  • I'm cheap and bought a set that DD could use for a few years...she loves her backpack even though it's usually too heavy for her to carry.  Honestly, the more stuff you can throw on your back (I strap the nap mat to it and put the lunch box inside) the better.  You'll have another little one to carry around and you'll have to hold Mar's hand.

I've had my two nieces and DD (3, 2.5 and 1 year) at the same time during school pickup and it makes me CRAZY having to somehow stuff my niece's over-sized lunch box, art projects and other junk in her too small backpack. Plus her nap mat doesn't buckle well so it won't stay closed and attach to her backpack.

Eloise uses a zip top tote from Lands End. I prefer it to the LL Bean version because it does have some pockets in it where the LL Bean one has none. The handle on the Lands End one is a tad shorter than I'd like it to be, but that hasn't been a huge issue. The bag used to be her diaper bag, it goes to MDO now, and she uses it when she goes on sleepovers and will be able to use it for years. I got her name monogrammed on it too and I think it's pretty cute.

Jenna - what size do you have?  I meant Land's End, not LL Bean!

  • We bought a super cute (and freaking spendy) Dante Biatrix backpack for T and ended up using it more as a diaper bag when we got out. His school stuff goes in a small LL Bean tote with his name on it. We actually got it as a gift when he was born and it's been one of our fave gifts ever!
