Sebastian or Alastair/Alister?

Or Arthur?

Which do you prefer and why?  We live in Michigan, so Sebastian is obviously the most popular of the three.

  • Love Alastair.  Sebastian is a great name too.
  • Sebastian is kinda cute. The others are NMS
  • Alister is such a pretty name, and not as popular as Sebastian.  Arthur reminds me of that 1980's movie.  So Alister gets my vote.
  • I vote Sebastian!!

  • I like Sebastian, it's not an unusual name, but it's not common either. Alastair is ok but sounds a little too preppy for my taste. I just don't like the sound of Arthur.

My answer is Alastair, but I'm biased b/c I have one.  I like Sebastian too, but not Arthur.
  • I like them in this order

    Alister/Alastair

    Sebastian

    Arthur

I'm biased toward Alister.  Arthur is really nms.

  • coworkers two sons are Sebastian and Alistair :)
  • For those with a son named Alastair or Alister, do you call him by his full name?  I don't like the idea of "Al."  Also, do you emphasize the "air" in Alastair?  I read on another board that it is said with the same ending as Alister.

Yep, Alastair is just Alastair, pronounced AL-is-ter.  I guess we could call him Alec or Al if we wanted a nickname.  It's really not that long of a name, 3 syllables ... my DD is Natalie (also 3 syllables) and I don't intend to use a nickname with her either.   When I was pg with A I had the same thoughts as you that I don't want him called Al, but now I honestly wouldn't mind it, it would even be kind of cute, but I don't think anyone's even tried to call him Al before.
