I had a c-section with my first child, but was planning for vaginal this time. My doctor told me today that I wasn't progressing and it was looking like I'll have to have a c-section again. My first child is autistic and I have been very picky about taking any medications during this pregnancy. I have been planning to breastfeed, and am now worried about the pain meds given after c-section and wondered if anyone knew the side effects to baby. Will I still be ok to breastfeed?
Re: Breastfeeding on pain meds after c-section
Yes, you will be fine. Your dr will ask you about bfing vs formula feeding and they will prescribe you meds that are safe for baby.
May I ask how you are not progressing at 35 weeks that the dr thinks you will need a repeat section? Seems a bit early to make that judgement...
To answer your question first, yes, you can still BF while on ibuprofen and whatever narcotic pain meds they give you (I've had Percocet and Vicodin after my 2 c/s).
But secondly... if you want a VBAC, don't give up hope! You're only 35 weeks. There are "safeguards" that the body puts n place with second+ kids, and one of those things is lack of progress before labor.
Have you considered using EPO (orally and/or vaginally) to ripen your cervix?
