XP: If you had Pre-E/HELLP...

How low were your platelets when you delivered?

I'm still in the hospital on bed rest and my blood pressures have stabilized with meds, and the protein in my urine has dropped from close to 700 to 450's, but my platelets have dropped from 160 almost 2 weeks ago when I was admitted to 124 today.  We're planning on checking them again tomorrow, and making a plan based on what that test result shows.  My doc has mentioned before that she would like to keep me above 120, and 100 or below they couldn't do a spinal anymore and I'd have to have go to sleep for the c-section.  Getting kind of anxious here and it would help to hear some of your experiences.

Thanks!

Re: XP: If you had Pre-E/HELLP...

  • Mine were about 115,000 when I delivered with HELLP/Pree.  Mine are now falling again, but no other symptoms of HELLP and they think it's just a end of pregnancy thing...I was 128,000 last week and will get checked again tomorrow, and then on Monday morning before my c-section. They wouldn't be worried unless I was under 100,000 for epi, and they wouldn't be worried for me otherwise unless it was way lower...

  • When they made the decision to insert the cervadil and start my induction, I was just over 120,000 (this was at 3am).  They got my epi in 4 hours later right before they fell below 100,000.  They never did get me stablized enough to start pitocen.  At 1pm, they made the decision to do my c-section.  Sam was born at 2:21pm and my platelets were 60,000.  They can fall extremely fast with HELLP.  It's good that you're in the hospital for continuous monitoring.
  • I had hellp/pre e with my ds in 2007... I dont know how low my platelets were but if your numbers in your post are correct they were under 100 as I had to be put out for my c section...

I got pre e /hellp very late.. my platelets started dropping at 37 weeks and my bp was high.. at 39 weeks I started getting sick.. up right quad pain, vomiting ect.. I went to my 39 week appt and I had protein in my urine.. they send me to the hospital.. I had a failed induction ( no epi allowed) and had a c section the next morning. I ended up in the ICU and had to have 2 platelet transfusions. I was in the hospital for a total of 6 nights.. ds was fine other than a little jaundice. I was supposed to go home after 5 nights but my bp was still high.. It did not go down to normal levels until about 12 weeks post pardum but I was not on any bp meds.. I am pregnant again and this time they are going to watch me like a hawk.  I wish you the best of luck.. hang in there! (((( hugs)))))
