Those planning to BF - Book Recs

Hi ~ Can you let me know of any good BF books that you have read so far?  Since a lot of people have said that BF is one of their biggest challenges after delivery, I feel like I should do a little more reading so that I don't go into it blind.  Thanks!

Re: Those planning to BF - Book Recs

  • Ina May's Guide to Breastfeeding.

  • I really didn't have any good books that I found...I took a BF class through the hospital, read articles online, talked to other moms about BFing, and a few of the basic baby books..

  • I bought a book called "Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn"...I know that Peggy Simpkin was one of the authors.  It had a good chapter on BFing, I also recommend finding an LLL group near you as there is so much to learn and so many variations of things that can happen when you BF it is nice to have a group of local women to ask questions and get pointers from when baby gets here.
  • I never read a single book w/ my first and BF for 14 months. I had a great nurse at the hosptial help me in the beginning...
  • If your hospital offers a class I would do that first.  I got a lot more out of the class at our hospital than I did from reading.

  • I liked So that's what they're for (breastfeeding basics)
but I also suggest taking a BF Class because it is good for you & the DH to get some basic knowledge, it will be a commitment from you both & he needs to realize that you need support.

  • Look up La Lache League and see what recommendations they have. I second Ina May though. Also anything by Dr. Sears is helpful.

I took a BFing class through the hospital and learned so much.  The instructor recommended kellymom.com.  Also, I just finished reading The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding which my instructor had laying out.  It had a ton of good information.

I also LOVED this one, but plan to take a class as well.

  • When DD#1 was born I survived with the info I got from reading "So That's What They're There For" and by browsing www.kellymom.com.  My only two resources and I successfully BFd for 13 months....good luck!  It is hard, but gets much, much easier as time goes on!!
  • The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers...wish I had read it before my first...it had answers for evrything that went wrong.
  • i have 'the womanly art of breastfeeding' that my cousins both read.  haven't started it yet though but know that it was their bible.
