Babies: 9 - 12 Months

those who intro solids @ 6months

I see that alot of 7 month olds here are on stage 2 foods. I feel like we are very behind or missing stuff because Ethan has only had oatmeal, bananas and avocados. We're making our own baby food too. I wondering when did you start bring them to level 2 and 3 (if you have already or when you plan to).

Re: those who intro solids @ 6months

  • i only introduced one new food a week so it took a really long time to get to stage 2.  our pedi isn't concerned.

  • We started with stage two foods.  DD loves to eat so she learned very quickly, every week we just would introduce something new and now she basically eats everything.  Last night she had some bbqd steak pieces, beans, tortilla, and cheese.

at 6 months my ped said there is only a few things that they should have. Nuts, honey, egg, and milk.  Everything else is really fair game.  DS has had a variety of different foods.  We lean a little more towards BWL, we never did too many purees. DS loves to feed himself.  I usually just give him bits of what I am eating.  ie. steak, cheese, fruit, veggies, chicken, and so on.

  • Started with Level 1 and then I started making my own.

Same here. I started stage 2 last week, when she was almost 8 months. She still have some stage 1 to eat, though, because I thought she'd eat much more than she did at first and bought a huge supply of stage 1.

  • we are in the same boat. we started at 6 weeks with bananas...had major tummy troubles with those so we waited till she finally pooped and got over tummy troubles (about 5 days), then we moved on to peaches, then pears, and now we're on sweet potato.  Its mostly practice right now so im not too worried.  Probably around 8 months we'll move on to stage...but we're just sorta seeing how it goes and following LOs lead.

  • We're not on stage 2 foods yet. We've almost done all the stage 1 foods we just have pears, and beans left and we're doing those this week. Then we'll move onto stage 2. So far DD has had bananas, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, peaches, apples, prunes, squash, avocado, and rice cereal. We just added a 2nd meal at 7 months and probably won't add a 3rd until 9 months, which is when we'll probably start stage 3. I'm going to start making my own food in the next couple weeks, we were doing jarred food until we figured out what she liked.

    Same here.

  • We "started" at 6m, but weren't successful until 8m. You aren't behind at all. Babies don't need solids until later.

  • i guess i should add we're using home made food...so i dont know what the specific stage 1/stage 2 store foods are... but we use a website with great info on home made food

  • No need to worry about being behind. You should.feel reassured that baby is getting it's calories from the best source - breast milk or formula.

  • We started around 5.5 months! I hope i'm not rushing LO to fast! She likes her oatmeal thicker and we only tried pears in stage 1 then started using some stage 2 foods. But i'm making her food now, and she hasnt had any problems at all.

  • LO still isn't on anything but formula.  Every solid we've tried to introduce has led to gagging and puking after even a small taste (dab on the tongue).
  • We did table foods from the start because we follow Baby Led Weaning (Solids).
