We plan to have Baby T sleep with us in our bedroom for a while. I remember some of you used an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper and I'm wondering if that's something we should look into. I like that it would allow baby to be close to us without actually being in our bed. I also like that there are "mini" versions available to save on space (we have a tiny bedroom). Lastly, the co-sleeper to bassinet to playard feature makes me think we can get a lot of use out of it.
1. For those of you who went with the ARCS, are you happy with your decision? If so, which model do you recommend?
2. If you didn't use the ARCS, how did you handle newborn sleeping arrangements?
Re: Newborn Sleeping Arrangements
We put him in his room in a crib for a nap each evening, but at night he sleeps in a bassinet next to our bed.
We have this frilly thing: https://tinyurl.com/2dfxjf8
It was a hand-me-down, but we love it.
Thankfully, it's narrow enough to fit into the small space on my side of the bed. It works out great because I never have to get out of bed to take care of his needs, and I like that I can carry the basket part into the living room when it's morning.

2. My oldest slept in her room in the crib her first day home. Unfortunately, we're in a 2 br so child #2 is sleeping in our room in the crib. We started out using the play yard bassinet because we had to clear out a space in our room for the crib.

We have the ARCS Original size and love it. She wouldn't sleep in it for the first 2 weeks, but part of that was our fault because we weren't swaddling her (so the only place she'd sleep was one me). With Baby #2 we'll just keep swaddling when we come home from the hospital and hopefully have less of a learning curve). I am glad we have the original size because she's a long baby and she would've already outgrown the mini. And the mini doesn't convert to a playard but the Original does. We have yet to use it as such, but plan to later this summer.
Truth be told, we've been using the ARCS more as a "bed rail" in that she sleeps on our mattress between me and the ARCS and it prevents her from being able to roll off the bed. In the past 4-5 weeks she's spent more time at night in it than in our bed, but before that she was more in our bed than in it.
Another idea, if you have the space, is to sidecar your crib to your bed. Our crib cannot do that because it has attached drawers, etc., but I wish I had known about this option...I might have bought a crib that could've done this instead of using an ARCS and having a separate crib (which we only use for naps right now).

2. They've been in their cribs from the start. I've sometimes wished we used an ARC (like at 2am feedings lol) but I think that ultimately this will work better for us.
Lisa, this is something you started from day one, right? I was thinking this was the way we would hope to do it as well since the baby room is right next to ours so I'm hoping it will work out. Was it a difficult thing to start putting them in the crib from the get go? I'm curious about it.

Yup, we've done it since the beginning. Really, the only part that was hard was me worrying about them because I wasn't staring directly at them lol! Our house isn't that big so even though they're "down the hall" it's only like 8 steps away so we don't have to run all over the house or anything. In terms of getting them to sleep, etc., I don't think it was any harder than it would have been if they were in our room.
We used a bassinet next to our bed for the first two months, then transitioned her to the crib. We have an eddie bauer bassinet that i got for half off on craigslist.
When she was so little, I wanted her close to me because I was paranoid something would happen and I couldn't sleep if I didn't hear her. But when she got up, I'd have to take her into the other room because bfing her in bed woke up DH. So sometimes i would sleep in the guest room with the bassinet.
When we put her in the crib, she immediently started sleeping longer! And we got more sleep too.

1. For those of you who went with the ARCS, are you happy with your decision? If so, which model do you recommend?
we got the original size ARCS - LOVE it. It seems more sturdy than a PnP bassinet (we used one of those for a trip out of town) and I like that the baby isn't in the bed with us. DH is a heavy sleeper and our bed isn't very firm, however I do sometimes snuggle/nap with J in our bed but wouldn't want to make that the norm. I'm happy with the original size because I think J would have grown out of the mini already length wise. I think the manual says the bassinet type feature goes until 3 months or 22 lbs. I think you could safely use it until the weight limit is reached even after 3 mo. (until they can sit/pull up). The small little ledge makes is so I can roll over and look right at him and easily grab him for night feedings although he has sttn since about 4-6 weeks old so that hasn't been an issue for a while. We just like having him near, it helps us all sleep better, and we like many attachment parenting concepts - semi co-sleeping being one that works well for us.
He will be sleeping in a crib in our room when he grows out out of the ARCS. He will continue to be in our room at least until 6-7 months for a number of other reasons besides that fact that we just like having him close - MB is only room with a/c, his room is at the opposite side of the house, and throughout the summer we will have a family member living with us to provide childcare and in case he does get fussy we would rather him be closer to us and not disturb them (guest room is next to nursery)
We didn't get it until he was 2 months old (b/c I was certain he was going to sleep in the crib from day 1!), but loved it once we got it. He will usually start to sleep in there and then I will pull him into bed in the middle of the night. We're hoping to sleep train and get him into the crib soon. We have the mini, and we like it. I don't think that one transitions into a play yard though? You CAN use a 20% off coupons for BRU if there's one near you. I also saw a couple on craigslist.
