Hawaii Babies

my kid is totally a genius

Last post for tonight, I promise. Stick out tongue

Tonight I helped Will discover the joy of dangling toys - that he can smack them and they move (and in this case, jingle). Now he's lying there and hitting it over and over again. Clearly my child is a genius. Wink

LOL it's so funny to me that this has me SO FREAKING EXCITED! I swear if you told me 2-3 years ago that I'd be posting this, I'd have thought you were crazy. I mean, it's a baby, hitting a stuffed toy on a ribbon. Not exactly the stuff of legends, I know. But Will hasn't played with toys before, so this level of interaction (and seeing him get sooo excited whenever he hits the toy) is completely new and awesome! I never thought I'd be so into something so simple, but watching these boys discover the world is just fascinating...I think that's the best part of kids, getting to see everything as new again.

P.S. No, Dash hasn't made the same discovery yet. He was napping while Will and I were playing. I have plans to try to introduce him to the same thing tomorrow. Stick out tongue

Re: my kid is totally a genius

  • Tee hee...I think I posted something similar on my FB when Libby was around this age and did the same on her excercise mat.  3-4 weeks is a fun time because they're less "mushy" and starting to become more engaging/interactive.

Babies are like little sponges...I swear I can show Libby how to do something (this week it's been turning pages on her board books as I read them to her) and she picks it up lightening quick!  I mean within a day.  So I remind myself that I need to not limit what I think she may or may not be able to do (within reason, of course) and see what happens.  Same thing happened when she started teething and I showed her how to hold onto her Sophie the Giraffe and get it in her mouth.  Literally, two weeks ago she had no idea what to do and now she's a pro and handling the toys and getting it into her mouth with control.  Amazing!

Yay Will!  Next up...Dash!  Pretty soon they'll both be cooing and start babbling and you'll have a whole new milestone to be excited about!

  • yay!  amazing huh?

Jack finally rolled over last night and DH and I literally cheered for him.  All week long he was working on it - he would roll from back to side and then get stuck and get MAD.  Finally last night he was in his crib while I changed him and put his PJs on and while he was squirming and playing he rolled from back to tummy, started to get mad and was able to push himself back to his side, got less upset, and then made it back to his back.  WOOHOO.

  • Aw, sweet.  How fast they learn!

Our boy isn't really into his toys.  He prefers to stare off into space, thinking amazingly deep thoughts.  And he loves tummy time and showing off how strong he is.  We swear he's thiiiiiis close to crawling!  Stick out tongue

YAY isn't this the best?!?  Mine always seems to do stuff when I'm not looking :)

  • That's pretty cool!  Like Melissa's boy, our J likes to look around more than playing with toys.  Stick out tongue
