FIL is visiting, and he just told my 2 1/2 y/o daughter that DS is handsome, and that now she is "suppressed, [she] lost [her] character"

    Whoa, that's not cool. If I were you I'd definately say something to him like "We are trying to promote bonding between our LOs and you saying stuff like that really doesn't help."

    I have a cousin who I still don't get along with because we were always being compared to each other as kids. That kind of stuff can stay with you.
