  • Here are the pros and cons off the top of my head:

    Pros:

    a) DS had a pretty easy transtion.  He doesn't remember ever not having a brother.

    b) We were still in "baby" mode, and still had the house babyproofed etc.

    c)  It will be easier to do things with both of them (go to the same movies, same vacations, same rides at theme parks, go camping, etc.)

    d)  hopefully they will have some of the same friends in school

    e)  Once we re-learn high school geometry, we can use it again the next year :)

    Cons:

    a)  DS is still a baby, and he has had to grow up a little faster.

    b)  I worry that #2 will always feel a little "behind" his brother

    c)  having 2 in daycare at the same time....having 2 in college at the same time....it's expensive

  • I LOVE it - but you MUST MUST MUST have a great marriage and a helpful DH. Granted, I have two waaaaaaaay under two.

  • This is giong to make me sound like a loony toon! BUT, I want the 2nd baby sooner than later, so that we can get out of the baby mode all together.  DH isn't a TON of help, and he works long hours, I work part time and am able to breast feed so really, I don't feel like we have the "expense" that everyone talks about.  Also, going to make me sound like a nutjob...a psychic told me I'd have a girl and then a boy (didn't say how far apart) we only want 2 children and one of each would be PERFECT, so I'm kind anxious to see if this psychic man was right or not! lol  Also, I'm really excited to get all of the little baby stuff out of the house.

I dont have two yet, but the expense is not in the beginning. I BF too, and I CD, plus I stay at home already. There is little expense in the beginning for me. As they grow there are more expenses. Preschool/daycare, clothes, school supplies, vacations, tuition for college back to back, weddings --etc.  Yes you will have two in diapers so thats expensive, but then again you'll get that all over together.

My dh works on a rig and is gone for 3 wks but then is home for 3. I am scared but I know that when he is home, he is a HUGE help wth DS and even he only helps with DS thats a big help to me. I would never have ttc when DS was 9 mon old if DH was not a big help. I can understand wanting to get the baby stage over with, BUT to do it bc your DH isnt a big help isnt smart IMO. I would pull my hair out and probably go insane (and I dont even have two yet).

AS for the psychic thing, yeah it would be great to have one of each sex, but what if you dont? Will you want more? are you going to be upset if you have another girl? these are ?'s you need to ask yourself.

I am happy with our decision thus far, but ask me next month =)

  • We got pregnant right as DS hit 1 year...they are 21 months apart and I think that is the perfect age gap if you want them under 2 years apart.  When DD arrived...DS was definitely independent, could eat adults food/feed himself and could talk pretty well...he didnt need to be carried everywhere which makes having a newborn easier...cant imagine carrying two kids everywhere.  Anyways, any closer than that I think it would have been really tough...I love them being 21 months apart and just might do it again when DD hits a year!

The expense is not in the beginning. That's the LEAST expensive part. Things start adding up when you have to pay for food (grocery bill gets higher), vacations, activities, school, etc.

I have BF all my kids, made my own baby food, etc. I have 3 kids and they are costing more and more every day.
