I don't have any but I remember there was one that showcased only babies smiling and other babies that watched it were mesmerized by all the smiling real-life babies. I don't know what it is called.
Anyway, there was some controversy over other Baby Einstein videos and I'm curious to know what your feelings are about it
Re: what are your thoughts/feelings on Baby Einstein videos?
Everything in moderation.
DD loves hers and watches one video a day or every other day.
I have a degree in child development.
If you'd like your child to watch flashing lights, it's great. Otherwise, it's pointless developmentally. Interacting with your child is better than any program or DVD.
well i agree with interacting being better than anything out there but I don't live in a perfect world where I can be available all the time for my LO. I live a single mom lifestyle due to my husband's demanding jobs to make ends meet. Sometimes, in order to get something done, I have to put the baby down and walk away....I let him watch Sesame Street and the baby shows on SPROUT TV....wish I had the extra set of hands to get things done so I could interact better....
"Wearing his BING CROSBY clothes and crooning...buuuh buuh buuuh"
I know that, personally, I felt totally zoned out and like my brain had started to liquefy after watching some of the baby einstein videos when I was a nanny. The music was horrible (the tinny, synthesized arrangements, not the actual classical compositions) and watching puppets, toys and pictures on the TV seems bizarre and supremely cheap.
I think TV in moderation when kids are a little older is fine, but I'd at least want my kids to watch something with some semblance of meaning instead of random things flashing on the screen. It's horrible.
i agree. i notice my baby loves anything that has a puppet show theme to it so he likes to watch "The Sharing Show"

I'm not really a fan.
I think TV in moderation is ok (if you need to get something done for a few minutes...or longer depending on the age of the child), but I just don't really care for the baby einstein DVDs.
When LO is completely a crank monster, these sometimes calm him down... we watch them a couple times a week, it is a nice break for him and me.
LO does not watch it the whole time, once he calms down he usually moves to play with his other toys while the music plays.
This. Total waste of $.
I think they are great.
Griffin LOVED them when he was younger- and still watches them now and then with his brothers - he finds them relaxing - so do I.
They are nice, "quiet" shows that teach a lot of things - depending on the episodes you get.... We always watched them with Griffin and talked about what was going on - so it was like reading a book in many ways...
The twins only watch it when we are getting ready/showering - they are not as into them as Griffin was- but that's OK- I don't mind the music being in the background of them playing - like I DO mind the sound of regular TV shows in the background during play.
