If you have moved with your toddler...a ?

We are in the process of moving to a new house. We are very excited, but I am nervous about the transition for DS. How did your LO adjust to the new house and what helped make it an easy transition. I think as long as I keep his routine the same he will probably do just fine, but I still worry. Maybe I am over thinking this? TIA!

Well, we moved in with my parents when DS was 18 months old (we are building a house and still live with them - ack). What helped was setting up his room in their house exactly like his room at our old house. Other than that we kept his routine the same and everything was fine. Of course, he was used to my parent's house so I know that helped. I am anxious to see how he does this summer when we move into our new house.

Our DS did fine. We moved to a second story house so the only worry was the stairs (which obviously we gated off) but other than that we kept his routine the same and he adjusted well.

DS did surprisingly well. It was me who did bad. He struggled a bit with a nap, but I went in every few minutes and calmed him down an put him back down. Now he sleeps all night (didn't before) and loves his room.

We also went from him being in our room to him being in his own room, which scared me.

We moved when DS was 12 mos and he did fine. He didn't have any trouble adjusting with naps/sleeping or anything else.

We moved to Germany when my second daughter was the same age as your LO. She did great, even with the 7 hour time difference. Her room was nothing like her old one, we didn't have our toys and everything else for about a month and she still did fine. At that time we also moved her into a twin bed since it took a while to get her crib but we could have a twin asap.

we moved when DS was 15 months. He had no problems with the new house. The new daycare was an adjustment though.

We left our home 3 weeks ago and will be away for several months. DD has different furniture here, but I brought her bedding and all of her toys. I think the key is to make it as familiar as possible. Surround them with their belongings and don't change any routines right now. Our pedi said to give her a full month to adjust. When we first got here, her sleep patterns were a bit off and I did see some other signs of stress , but she's done well. Just give your LO lots of TLC and he'll be fine. They are more resilient than we know.

We moved when dd was 12 months old and actually did so twice, from our condo to my dads to our new house 2 weeks later. She did great all things considered. We kept her crib the same but the walls and curtains were different, not sure if that mattered much tho. We had 3 or 4 nights of tough bed times and then as if by majic she was fine! GL!

like you said keep routines the same right now. If possible bring your lo to the new house and show them things. we took ds#1 and showed him where his room would be etc. before we moved. He did just fine. For us we went from a tiny house to a significantly larger house so ds was super happy about having tons more space to play in.

Thanks for posting this. We're moving in a few weeks & I am a little nervous. We're planning to take her to the new house a week before to show it to her. Also, there's a section in WTETTY about moving.
