Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Help me out please: Can you feel the glands in your DS's groin?

So DS had a bit of a fever (102.2) 2 weeks ago; it went away with Motrin and never really came back.  For some reason, I pressed on the lymph nodes on his groin (like the crease where his leg meets his body) and they didn't exactly feel swollen, but they were noticeable.  I didn't feel many of them--only like 2 on one side and one on the other--and they weren't huge--like the size of a pea or maybe a small edamame.
They're still the same size 2 weeks after his fever.
I've talked to his pediatrician and she said we should keep an eye on it to see if they change (get bigger) but otherwise not to worry about it.

Will you check your DS's groin glands next time you change his diaper and page me or PM me to let me know what you find?  If a bunch of other kiddos on here have similar glands, I'll feel a lot better!

TIA!

  • we've been dealing with swollen glands for months now and have even seen an infectious disease specialist to find the cause which is still escaping us.  Anyway, the point to this is he said it can take 4 months or longer in some cases for lymph node swelling to come down after an infection.  He also said that LO's lymph node growth is much faster than overall growth and sometimes that can lead to perceived swelling when it's just normal growth patterns.

Kepp an eye on it, but try not to worry too much.

  • Thank you for your advice!
    Is your LO okay?

Other ladies: Still interested in your experiences, too!

  • We're still not quite sure what is going on, but hers are wide-spread inflammation.  We're back to careful watching for another month or so to see if there is any improvement b/c the blood work is all coming back mostly OK and nothing is showing cause for immediate concern.

    Thanks for asking...

  • Oh, I'm sorry to hear that--it must be worrisome!  I hope you'll get a clean bill of health for your DD soon!
  • Last time we went to the pedi he made us feel DS's lymph nodes so we'd be aware of what they felt like.  DS's are tiny-maybe the size of a lentil?  It just feels kind of bumpy but they're not big.  GL-I hope your DS is ok.
  • About a month ago I felt them while changing his diaper - freaked me out, for sure.  About a week later, sure enough he came down with a cold and had swollen glands in his neck too.  After the cold went away, all glands returned to normal.

Perhaps it's just a signal of something coming?  I hope you figure it out and it's nothing more than a simple cold.
