3rd Trimester

Well, aren't I special (seriously TMI)

I got excited on Tuesday night because I lost my MP. I've been having a ton of false labor contractions and I thought it might actually mean I was progressing.

On Thursday evening, I had a doctor appointment and she checked me and I was 80% effaced and 2cm dilated, which was progress. This was only my 2nd internal and the 1st one was painless and easy, with no lasting effect. This one was completely different. Since that internal, I have been passing GUMBALL sized hunks of reddish brown mucous. I had to call the doctor on Friday because I seriously almost vomited in the shower with the gunk coming out of me. She told me that is was my MP. I told her that I thought I already lost that earlier in the week, and she answered, "Well, some women just produce a lot of mucous. It may take a few days to stop."

So, I've basically lost my MP times at least a hundred since Thursday.  And yes, it is the grossest thing ever. I know that birth will trump this, but seriously, gross.

I hope no one else out there has an extra mucousy cervix like me Ick!

  • if you've seen blood, it could mean something. at least the grossness will be worth it in the end =) I never lost mine

What would blood mean? I thought it didn't "count" as my bloody show if I had an internal? Because it's been a bloody, stringy mess.

  • Depends on the color of the blood.  Brown = due to internal.  Bright red = bloody show.

Huh, interesting. Well, I've had both brown AND red in the past two days, so who knows.

  • I've lost mine a few times... it's possible for the plug to regenerate somewhat, and yes, for some women to have a lot of mucous. I just wish all the times I was losing it meant I was actually going to have the baby soon. No such luck so far.
  • Yeah, sorry to burst the hopeful bubble, but that gross stuff will probably just keep on coming until you deliver.  I usually lose stuff often over the course of several weeks.  Sometimes just a little and sometimes a lot like you said.  I have had the experience of increased red and brownish blood after my internals, esp. if they are a little rough, but unfortunately that didn't necessarily lead immediately to labor either.  Everyone's just different.  Good news though is that you are probably continuing to dilate, so hopefully your labor will progress easier once it really gets started.
