Who used pampers drymax and did you have any problems?

Hey ladies - just checked all my diapers and one of my newborn packs has drymax.

I'm curious as to how many of you actually used drymax diapers and who had any problems with them?

TIA!

Re: Who used pampers drymax and did you have any problems?

  • we did and we had major diaper rash...if you could call it that..it was more like a burn.

I'm currently searching for a new brand.  Until then I'm using swaddlers sensative until he outgrows NB diapers.

I bought a pack of huggies size one and Luvs size one to see if I like either of those and if not...then I'm going to try Sam's club brand.

  • We used them and had a burn for weeks--that blistered up and bled (pedi confirmed it was a burn).  I am associating the two things since he has had no other rashes or other problems of any sort.  We changed his diapers at least 15 times/day since he was a newborn and going all the time, as soon as we could tell we needed to--so I don't think that is the problem either.
  • Thanks so much ladies! I won't be using them. I didn't buy them, they were given to me - do you think that I could still exchange them at Babies R Us?
    Brady (7.15.10) and Nolan (5.11.13)
  • If they are unopened they should let you exchange them.

  • You can exchange them at Target--tell them you don't have a receipt, and they'll let you swap them for other diapers of the same price (even without doing that $70/year limit thing).
  • We use them and can't even tell which diaper is the drymax and which are the old ones. ds has never had a rash. if its a small pack give them a try, alot of users have no problems.

  • No problems here. Chances of your LO having a rxn are slim. I'd try them - we love them!

This exactly, about 99% of the population hasn't had problems with them, so I would give them a try.

Maybe, but my Pedi said they had seen several cases of burns like Asher's and that all of the parents were using Pampers. It could just be coincidence...if it were just a diaper rash I'd risk it, but this is painful and takes forever to go away.

  • We had problems. Both of my LO's had major rash from Dry Max.
  • We have used them from day one and have no problems. We really like how they work!

Yes most don't have problems, but I would not just try it. This isn't some small diaper rash we are talking about. its a CHEMICAL BURN! I can't imagine purposefully using LO as a guinny pig to see if she gets a chemical burn!

If you started using them before this came out and LO had no problems, then keep using it. But if you haven't tried it yet, PLEASE don't throw them on LO to see if her skin has that reaction. Poor thing.

  • We got two huge boxes as gifts and started using them in the last month or so and have yet to have a problem with them.

We have tried huggies, luvs, up & up, mommy to mommy and the rite aid brand and have had leaks/blowouts with all of them. We have yet to have a leak or blowout with the pampers drymax. I will continue to use them, unless it becomes a problem.

Sure, I understand. I'm not saying there isn't anything to it. But I think the constant news about this has caused parents to be on a higher level of alert about this, which has caused more to go to the pedi for diaper rash than normal, making it seem like there are many cases when many babies just have normal diaper rash - which obviously wasn't the case for you.

I don't think it's like using them as a guinea pig. That's like saying you should never feed peanuts/peanut butter to your LO because some babies have an allergic reaction to them.

  • I used Pampers Swaddlers and loved them.  Then got a pack of the newborn Pampers Dry Max and they leaked.  It was horrible - my poor baby had poop all over her.. this happened twice and then I just plan to throw the rest out.  I tried Target brand and they seem to be working great!

  • DS had alittle bit of diaper rash. I just bought a box of them and now they don't fit. He grew out if them. Now we're using huggies newborn.

This.  I've had not problems exchanging unopened diapers at Target or BRU.

But we've used the drymax and have had no problems......just for the flip-side of the argument.

  • I just bought a pack on Friday and haven't had any problems with them, but I noticed they have a weird smell to them. It kind of smells like some kind of strong cleaner, so I stopped using them because of that.

I certianly wouldn't feed them to them before they are the proper age. Babies aren't supposed to eat peanuts. 2 years is the rec age.

And at least with diapers, there are an easy subsititue. Just use another brand. If you haven't used them already, why use them? It just seems like a crazy risk to take to me. I can't imagine.

  • No issues.

    Seriously?

Even if the chance is low, why on earth would you risk giving your brand new baby a chemical burn? It obviously isn't super rare, as evidenced by this thread.

i've been using them and my baby's bottom is white. not red. lol.
  • I unintentionally bought 2 boxes (Swaddlers newborn w/Dry Max) before all the bad press and problems were publicized... they leak really badly!  DD went through a new outfit every time we changed her.  Plus, she got this nasty rash on her bottom.  "Diaper Deals" on amazon.com sells the old school Pampers newborns Swaddlers without Dry Max (and WITH the wetness indicator that I love).  I got a box of 240 diapers (12 packs of 20) for about $54.  No leaking and rashes since we switched.  HTH!
  • If it was just a rash that it could cause, I might say to take the risk if the Huggies don't fit, as they didn't for us.

But we had a serious burn--actually two, on both sides of his little butt.  Diaper rash cream didn't take it away.  Washing his butt every single diaper change with a wet wash rag instead of wipes (a serious pain, by the way) didn't take it away.  He actually doesn't cry at diaper changes, it turns out (now that it is healing) but he screamed during his changes in the beginning because of the burn (until we got some soothing ointment on there--one thing the diaper rash cream was good for I guess).  That is really hard to put your LO through just for the sake of using one type of diaper, I think.  Hopefully it doesn't cause those problems for others, but haven't gone through it, I would say not to risk it, of course.

  • I have been using them until recently and have had no issues whatsoever
  • We haven't had any problem.

no problems - I bought them before the issues came out. I didn't like that they didn't have the wetness indicator.

  • I use them and prefer them to Huggies. DS has a diaper rash last week, but thats all it was and it cleared up. I'll continue to use them until I see a problem.
