Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Have you put LO to sleep on their tummy?

My MIL was watching DS this past week, and put him down for a nap on his tummy. He slept for like 2 hours, the best nap he has taken literally in months. I am tempted to continue this for naps (not night sleeps, he does really well with this already). What do you think?

  • We always put him to sleep on his back but he started rolling over about 2 1/2 weeks ago and the second I put him down, he flips to his stomach.

My pedi said to just continue putting him on his back but because my guy has enough control to roll all the way over, he'll be fine, as long as there's nothing soft in the crib.

We did this early on and ended up letting them sleep on their stomachs at night at about 2 months. Our boys have reflux and they were more comfortable on their bellies. It's a personal choice but it worked for us.

  • We just started doing this for both naps and at night this week. She sleeps perfectly on her stomach and has plenty of strength in her neck/head to turn if she needs to!

  • We've always put him to sleep on his back, but he rolls over on his stomach within minutes of putting him down.  He apparently a tummy sleeper like his Mommy. ;)

I wouldn't for nighttime, when I'm also sleeping, but I've been putting my DS down for naps (most of the time on his playmat) on his tummy for over a month now.

I get 3 hour naps out of him that way!!

  • Nearly every night since he was born.  Found out early on that this was the absolute only way he would sleep.
  • The only times I've put her down on her tummy was when she would fall asleep on me (several months back during maternity leave) and I was right there (naptime), and just the other weekend when she had horrendous gas and was screaming in her sleep. Otherwise I always put her down on her back and if she goes to her tummy, I'll leave her but she doesn't quite make it all the way around just yet.

    THIS!

  • I wouldn't overnight but I would for naps. I tried putting DS down on his tummy for a nap but all he did was cry until I flipped him over. He sleeps awesome at night (12 hours) but I get maybe 30-60 minutes a day out of him for naps.

This... but we started at about 1 month when we realized she had reflux and this was the ONLY way she would sleep.  Dr. said as long as you monitor them closely he wouldn't object.
