Moms w/Eczema Babies

So my LO has eczema. They told us it's a mild case. We use Aveeno products, head and shoulders, moisturize after baths and bathe him only about twice a week. It's the worst on his head hence why we use the head and shoulders and he has some cradle cap too. We moisturize his head 2x daily and put Aquaphor on the cuts.

Problem is his face is constantly scratched up and I make a point to keep his nails clipped short and filed but he still marks up his head with scratches. I guess I should be staying on top of his nails every other day instead of once or twice a week, but I am wondering at what point do I tell the doc we need a prescription for something stronger because the OTC stuff is not cutting it? It just bothers me so much that he has a new scratch every day and it looks awful! Even though it's a "mild case" I hate that he clearly is uncomfortable from it.

Also, someone suggested our water might be the problem, anyone have that issue?

DS has mold eczema too. I was using aquaphor and the aveeno products and it didn't really do much. My pedi said I could try OTC cortizone for eczema. They sell it at CVS and its in a red tube. His eczema is pretty much gone and he doesn't scratch anymore. I'd ask your pedi if its ok first, just to be sure. It has 1% hydrocortizone in it as the active ingredient.

My LO has horrible eczema. We have a prescription for hydrocortizone 2.5% cream. We also use VaniCream (which is OTC but you have to ask the pharmacy for it. It is a moisturizing lotion). Aquaphor is also used. Her skin treatment regime takes forever! The products have helped, but she still has flare ups. GL!

I could have written this exact post. My son always looks like he has been in a fight with a stray kitten. And I think that his eczema is bad, but his dr also says that it is just mild. He has it bad on his face and on his legs, arms, and chest too. He gave us a perscription for hydrocort 2.5% and said if it wasn't working we could up it to 4.5%. We try to apply it 3 times a day, but his hands are always by his face and he smears it everywhere. The new stuff does work pretty well,but we have also stopped bathing him so much. I haven't heard that water might be the problem, but I could see how that could contribute to the irritation.

JJ has it too. MD just prescribed a mild steroid cream for a short term fix. We increased our aquaphor use to 3 times daily, full body. Bathe only 2 times a week. Use Aveeno products in the bath. And we do have a water softner system....thank God!!

If you BF have you tried cutting dairy out of your diet? That made a huge difference for us.

DD has it too. She scratches her face until it bleeds. It also oozes sticky stuff. I tried aquaphor, eucerin and aveeno. None helped. Then the dr. told me to try cortizone 1% and it is AMAZING. Twice a day, once in the morning, once at night and its completely cleared up. Haven't had a flare up in a month.

LO has a mild case...his skin is just dry. I cut out dairy because he was having problems pooping and since then, he hasn't had many flare ups. Mostly, he has 'cuts' behind his ears. We use hydrocortizone .5% Be careful with using the hydrocortizone too much....it thins the skin if used daily on the same area. We lube him with Aquafor twice per day.

As far as the water, I'm guess they are saying you may have hard water...not really sure though.
