3rd Trimester

Lets talk diaper brands

I know there  has been an up-roar on the Dry- Max thing and many people aren't using them now.

So my question is- if you aren't going with Swaddlers, what are you going to use instead?

I am at a complete loss as to what to buy now, since i had always planned on using the Swaddlers.  I would love to do cloth, but since they aren't allowed at daycare....I do have to find disposable.

Thoughts?

I bought small packs of Huggies (one is the pure & natural one, the other I think is Baby Dry)... I also have a pack of Swaddlers Sensitive and I think one other kind.  Once LO is born I'll go through those 4 packs and see what works best, then go from there.

I'm tempted to try Luvs, too... seems like people either love them or hate them, but if they work well I might go with them because they're so much cheaper!

  • I've pretty much used all the name brands and really don't have a preference (except I haven't tried the new Dry max Pampers...pampers are more expensive anyway, so I've avoided them since DS's swaddler days).  We started out liking Huggies better than Pampers, then moved to the old swaddlers (loved them actually), Kirkland brand at Costco is what we've used the most and then Luvs if I can't get to Costco.

I've heard the Target up and up brand is good, too.

  • I have Huggies, Luvs, Target brand and Pampers swaddlers (without DryMax). I got all of our diapers at my shower (they did a diaper raffle) and will see what works best for us and LO and then go from there.

I do *hope* that Pampers work for us - my dad works at a hospital and can get me a 240-count box for $21.
  • I am going with pampers. All my friends use the dry max with no problems. My mom is also stocking up on Costco diapers, which get great reviews from the people she stalks in the store! lol She just waits in the diaper section for someone to pick up a brand and jumps on them, asking their opinion. I love my mommy!

    Costco's brand is Kirkland right?

  • Costco brand.  It is what we used for B after he was out of newborns, and what we plan on using for Luke too.
  • I think I'll use the swaddlers.  DD has not had any issues with the DryMax, but I know all kids are different.  I'm not a fan of Huggies.  I'm tempted to try Luvs b/c they are so much cheaper.
  • We're going to start with Huggies.  DS1 was allergic to Pampers, so we've been using Huggies since we found out (around 2 weeks).  Might as well start out with the same with this one.

yes.  We haven't tried them, though because that's where we buy Huggies and they are actually cheaper than Kirkland AT Costco - in the store, if you do a price by price comparison....I'm not sure about online, though.

ETA - We're in size 4's and have been for over 6 mos.  They are $50 for a box of 200 Huggies as opposed to $50 for a box of 186 Kirkland.

Huggies are HORRIBLE. They leak all the time! This is a common complaint on the 0-3 board.

I don't trust the new Pampers.

Luvs, however, have been wonderful! For such a cheap diaper, they sure do the trick. Just keep in mind that they run a little smaller size wise.

We never had  a leak-problem with Huggies.   Luvs were okay, we didn't trust them over time.

  • I have a few boxes of swaddlers without dry max and some huggies. DS is actually in huggies now, with no issues at all. I love both. Luvs leaked on Ds like crazy

  • We bought four big boxes of the swaddlers (various sizes). Here in the UK they don't have the Dry Max in the newborn - 3 sizes, which I hear is a good thing.

DH and I both suffer from VERY sensitive skin. We got a bunch of diaper and wipe samples in the mail and broke out in rashes from every single one of them. Swaddlers seems to be the only one that doesn't affect us.

Hopefully it'll be ok for the baby, or we'll have to use cloth, which will be a PITA since we don't have a tumble dryer.

  • We are using Pampers Swaddlers sensitive at first.  But after our first box and those from the hospital are gone, we will switch to Parent's Choice.  We tried Pampers, Huggies, Luvs, and Parent's Choice with DD and PC is what turned out to be the cheapest and works great.

I'm going with PS first because I like that they're super soft, but they're too expensive to justify long term.

  • We used Kirkland brand with DS1 and had no issues with them at all. We just bought some for DS2.

My advice would be don't buy too many of one kind. You might find you don't like them for whatever reason and want to try another. I've heard great things about the Up and Up (Target) brand diapers, too, although DS1 got a horrible, horrible rash from the old Target diapers (they've since completely changed them, but I'm still a little hesitant to try). If DS2 doesn't have the same kind of eczema issues DS1 has I would like to try Up and Up, too.

We are using a cloth diaper service but I'll have packs of Seventh Generation for back ups
  • We had a contest at my baby shower for whoever brought in  bag/box of diapers. We have so many pampers and huggies. Only 2 smaller packages of luvs. In my history of being a nanny to two different families with a total of 7 kids, they both used pampers. So I'm used to using pampers...they worked great. NEVER had an issue with them. But I'm not against trying huggies too. So we are starting out with the new organic huggies with the baby.As long as the huggies work for him and the pampers, we may just go back and forth depending on sales and coupons!

Not sure about the luvs. I know every baby is different...but...I haven't heard too many positive things about luvs. So we'll see :0)

  • I've used all the main brands, my favorite is Seventh Generation.  My kids have sensitive skin and get rashes from all the others, never a rash with SG.  And I've never had a problem with them leaking/blowouts, etc.
