1st Trimester

? for those with m/s...

How the heck do you manage to continue making meals for your family???

And how do you manage to do dishes...and clean out the fridge?

This is my first pregnancy, and FEELING sick is killing me. ANY food I look at makes me feel sick. My ability to make supper for my husband and I like I used to is failing :(

Re: ? for those with m/s...

  • I had to just tell myself that my life could not stop or change because I felt crappy! It wasn't really making dinner and cleaning up the house( DH helped with that) it was taking care of my DD.  she is very active and there's no way I could let m/s get the best of me.

Try to think about something else to get you through it.  I told myself "it'll be over soon" & just reminded myself that I should be soo excited that i'm having another baby.. So GL.

  • Hang in there. I find dealing and being around cold foods with less aroma helps significantly but I know most dinners are not "cold." At least you can get a potential break with breakfast and lunch.
  • DH eats a lot of pasta while I have cereal! Or we buy frozen stuff you can just pop in the oven. At least I don't have to look at it that way! It won't last forever!

    I don't Cool

I have a very strong sense of smell to begin with and opening the fridge makes me gag. I have done the dishes a few times, but if the kitchen gets really bad and there's food smells I just can't. My husband has been REALLY understanding and will usually come home and bring dinner or cook something simple and do dishes. He's even cleaned out the fridge really good once and that helped a lot. But the smell of cooking food is not ok right now. Just ask your friends or husband for help, it'll get better once the sickness passes Smile

  • I didn't, DH took over meal prep, grocery shopping, and dishes. It got better once m/s let up around week 13.
  • I have not been able to cook or clean for the most part. I told DH he has to do dishes every night, take out the trash and fend for himself when it came to meals. There is the occasional evening when I am feeling up to cooking, but mostly its been take-out. DH was a little slow to start helping around the house, mostly because I spoiled him before this, but after a few arguments and crying spells he has caught on.

  • Thanks so much Ladies!

This is just a huge change for us. Usually I am the main house-keeper, even though we both work full-time. However, he works 50+ hours a week, so when he is home, he is usually beat (which I completely understand with the job he has).

I just feel really useless and guilty. And no one who knows about the pregnancy has experienced anything like this (in regards to the constant m/s), so no one really understands. I think everyone just thinks I'm lazy.

  • With DS, I had this aversion to chicken, so much that raw chicken and chicken in the process of being cooked made me sick.  When it was cooked, I could handle the smell but still never ate it.  When DH wanted chicken, he had to cook it and I had to leave the kitchen.  My advice- ask DH if he can make dinner for the next few weeks until it improves.  And if he gets home later than you do and doesn't have time, maybe you guys can just have quick, easy meals for a while.  If there are any chores that don't gross you out, like maybe folding laundry, you can offer to do those instead.  He should be more than willing to understand and pick up the slack.

  • I didn't.  He cleaned the fridge, I could manage to wash dishes and we did a lot of takeout and frozen food and his parents brought us some food too.  :)  Bless his soul. He should be fine with it and i'm sure he'll be willing to help you!

The smell of cooking chicken and cooking eggs were the worst!
