Anyone take their LO out of DC...

Currently, LO is going to a small Christian DC part-time, but he's been getting ear infections practically every time he gets sick from DC which is like every other week. As soon as he is done with one cold, he gets another one :( I'm thinking of taking him out of DC and finding a home care or someone to watch him at home. Did any of you do this and it helped with your LO not getting sick as often??

Thanks ladies! TGIF!!

  • Something to keep in mind is eventually they do build up immunities and are less sick in the long run especially once they reach school age. It is a sucky process but they do get past it.

With DS#1 I found when we switched daycares we had to go through the process again so you may not find a huge improvement at first when you do switch.

  • DS started DC at 3 months and he was sick at least once or twice per month in the beginning.  I had the same concern and thought maybe I needed to switch him or something... the pedi said that it was pretty typical for the LO's in DC to get sick VERY often for the first year and that it would taper off.  I have to say, he was absolutely right.  DS is very rarely sick anymore b/c he's built up a healthy immune system.

  • I actually took DD out of DC for this reason. It was just a never ending battle of getting sick every other week, and then of course we would get sick too. I am sure it is true about building up immunities, but it was just a rough winter for us, I decided to pull her out. She is now being watched by someone who only takes care of one other baby. She has been there for almost 4 months and has only had a cold once. Quite an improvement!
  • I would consider switching.  My DD has been at an in-home daycare and has not been sick yet.  I have friends with kids the same age who are in a larger daycare and their kids have already been sick 3 different times (In about 6 weeks!).  That said, it can be tough to find quality in-home care.
