Bath question

DD hates having her hair washed.  HATES it!  Always has.  But lately she reacts like I'm scaring her (terrifying her!) when I try to lay her back in the tub.  And she completely freaks out if I pour water over her head.  So what do you do?  How do you wash your LO's hair?  Thanks, ladies!

Re: Bath question

  • I have a hand held shower head and use that to rinse her hair.

  • My DD has very little hair but I just rub her head with a wet washcloth.  You could just brush water through her hair unless it's really dirty.
  • also get her to hold a folded up towel over her eyes and that might help her too.  Plus that way, she gets to participate.  Try having her dump water on herself as well - thats a big trick we use with Marion
  • I use a washcloth and keep rinsing it over and over again until V's hair is clean.  I might try the dry towel on her forehead next time!  We don't have a hand held sprayer in her bathroom.  I've also thought about using a spray bottle and pretending it's a game.  It would take forever to rinse it out, but it would be worth it if it works.  GL!

I think she'd react the same to the hand-held sprayer as she does with the cup.  But it's worth a shot!

I'll have to give the wash cloth and spray bottle a try too.

We tried having her do it herself.  The first time, I don't think she reazlized what she was doing because she looked pretty surprised!  DH and I told her what a big, brave girl she was and she seemed pretty happy with herself.  Enough to do it again anyway.  But every time after that, she kind of dumped it behind her head instead of over her head.  Funny girl.  :)

What a cutie!  We don't give V the cup because she tries to drink her bath water.  Gross.

DD does that too.  :)  It really grosses DH out, but I stopped worrying about it as much after she ate cat food.  Talk about gross?  She had cat food breath for hours afterward!  Ick!

  • My child refuses to sit down in the tub (much less lay back) so everything is standing. I use my hand to make an L shape that i put across her brow when I rinse her hair. I use a cup to pour the water over her head and my had blocks it from getting in her face.

  • I saw a visor thing at BRU that keeps the water out of the eyes. Bath section.

LOL!  The thought of your sweet, little girl trying to smooch you with her cat breath is just too cute.  V tries to get into the cat's dish at my mom's house.  Now I know that cat breath lasts for hours.
