1st Trimester

Cramping

I realize moderate cramping is normal during pregnancy but mine seems to be happening more frequently. Thankfully it's not accompanied with bleeding or spotting. Also, its short lived...usually if I sit down and relax it subsides. But lately they seem a little stronger (almost like pre menstrual cramps). I should be about 5-6 weeks at this point.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Cramping

  • Totally normal. I got REALLY bad doubling over cramps around 6wks to the point the cramps alone made me sick. Turned out I had a minor subcorionic bleed.

But the Dr told me the menstral like cramps are completely normal. Just everything stretching.

  • Thank you! I just need to relax but I find myself worrying a lot.
  • Yup. All through 1st tri the 1st time I was pregnant. At 12 weeks the cramping got so severe I thought I was miscarrying.

Yes...totally normal!! With DD, I was about 4-5 weeks pregnant during the presidential election. I remember standing in line for about 2 hours to vote with the WORST cramping to the point where I had to sit down. I really thought I was miscarrying, so I told a poll worker to please let me skip the line because of all that...of course they did...got home, in tears, expecting to find blood, and nothing. She's a perfect 10 month old now!! With this one, I had it too and got worried and jsut had to keep reminding myself about DD's pregnancy! My OB was good and told me to think fo it as a good thing...thigns are progressing, baby is growing, hence the stretching of the uterus and cramping. Soooo, cramping = good!!

A few nights ago I had some very intense cramping (not doubled over painful, but definitely noticeable and uncomfortable!).  Since then they have become quite mild and everything seems to be ok.  It's hard not to worry, but try not to...that's what I have to keep telling myself.

  • Yes. I've had some pretty severe, bent over double, dry-heaves cramping so far. I cut out caffeine and that has helped tremendously.

  • So glad you posted this. I've been having mild to moderate cramps all day that come and go. I think they are mostly round ligament pain or gas pains (gotta love this constipation...). I'm just taking it easy tonight and drinking a ton of water to ease the gas issues, and hoping it all goes away.

  • I've been wondering about this as well. I've been cramping on my right side and it's tolerable pain, mostly uncomfortable but it feels like it's throbbing. Anyways, since it's not so painful I've been telling myself it's probably just normal. Hearing it from all of you relieves my worry. Thanks.
  • It sounds like this is pretty common. As much as we read and hear from our doctors that we are okay, it still doesn't ease our minds when we have any level of pain during pregnancy.
  • I had terrible pain so bad at first, 4-7 or so weeks that I thought any moment I was going to miscarry, but everything looks great so far :) I did have an ultrasound which showed a cyst on my right ovary which might have caused some of my pain.
