makeup & hair for L&D?

so i was told by many of my friends/family who have had kids that they did their hair and makeup before going into L&D. and i also saw Kourtney Kardashian (keeping up with the kardashians, yes i watch it :P) she did the same thing.

whos going to be doing their hair and makeup for LO's birthday?

I can't imagine wearing makeup while hot/sweaty and pushing LO out, I'ld rather have a fresh clean face.

Re: makeup & hair for L&D?

  • My hair is curly naturally, and I like it blown out and straight - I will probably do that before I head to my induction on Monday but no makeup.

  • If I'm up for it, I plan to shower and dry my hair before heading into L&D.  I won't have the makeup caked on, but I want to make an attempt at looking presentable for pictures.

  • Oh dear lord! This will be the least of my concerns!

I will ask for a touch-up just prior to when family comes in to visit and minimal pics. That is, if DH isn't so proud that he takes a million horrible photos at all of the wrong times.

  • I probably won't before l&d but I won't get too many pictures until I'm cleaned up. Most of my "birth" pictures with ds are horrendous...i can't even look at them bc I just look miserable.

  • I'm probably going to do my hair, but it'll just be for something to do to pass the time before going in.
  • I plan on taking a shower before heading to the hospital.  I'm also going to put on some make up before we go.  I am not going to put a ton on (I usually on wear eyeshadow/liner/mascara only).  I just want to look decent

  • i rarely wear makeup anyway.  with ds i was soooo swollen by the time i got to l&D that no amount of makeup would have made me look like me anyway.

  • I'm going to ATTEMPT to make my hair straight before we go in. Pictures! Gotta look pretty! But as for makeup -- I don't wear any now as it is so I won't worry about it :-)
  • If I have time, a shower and shampoo.  If I am ready beforehand, I will get my nails done so they won't look awful in professional pix taken at the hospital.

  • I won't bother with makeup for L&D but will definately slap on some quickly for pictures/visitors afterwards. My hair isn't really an issue- I packed a headband to toss in to keep it out of my face.

  • If I have time, I may shower, simply because who knows how long it will be until I get another one.

As far as makeup, eh, I don't wear that much anyway, mostly mascara and lipgloss....which can be applied before pictures are taken.

  • Hmmm. With DS1 I was like hell no. But I rarely wear makeup or do anything special to my hair anyway.

This time I'm having a scheduled c-section, so maybe I'll put some makeup on first. I'm not sure. It won't be at the top of my priority list, but it would be nice to look halfway decent for photos after the birth and I'm sure I won't feel like it after I get out of surgery. We'll see.

  • I'm planning on washing and straightening my hair only. No makeup, especially not mascara. That's the last thing I want is black in my eyes and running down my face if I cry.
  • After my water broke with DS I took a shower (it was first thing in the morning and shower time for me anyway) and I did my hair (well, blew it out and did my everyday hair).  I didn't put makeup on.

This baby will be a scheduled c-section.  I am planning to do my everyday hair and some light makeup prior to the surgery, but I haven't looked through my hospital requirements yet though and I know some don't like makeup, so we'll see about that...I WILL be doing my everyday hair though.

  • i naturally have sparse eyebrows, so i draw them on. yeah, they will be on for sure. i'll put my hair up, as i have bangs that i KNOW will drive me nuts, and i'll prolly throw a little eyeliner on......

I think I've always made sure I was presentable when going to the hospital.

That being said, I always let my hair air dry (unless for a special occasion) and my make-up process is VERY minimal: mineral powder and mascara, neither of which make me feel gross if I'm sweaty. I don't have the skin to go anywhere without makeup.

I took a shower before going to the hospital with both girls (not to "clean", but as part of the whole process of staying calm and relaxed during labor) so I just reapplied my makeup afterward. It takes me 2 minutes tops :)

  • Like many PP I will try to shower before heading in so I'm nice and clean at least and who knows when I'll be able to again after that.  However, I barely wear makeup on a normal basis.  If I'm going out somewhere, like to dinner, movies with friends, etc, I'll put some on, otherwise I don't bother so I won't for this.  I will be too busy being all hot, sweaty, most likely in pain.  I have bad skin anyway and after going through labor with makeup on, it will probably irritate it more.  Like I would never wear it to work out either because it just makes your skin worse when combined with sweat, etc.  I *may* bring some powder and lip gloss for when people visit that if I feel up to it I may put on but I really sincerely doubt I'll even worry about that :oP

  • I will shower and shave before the hospital because who knows when I'll have the time/ energy after the baby comes.  My hair is going to be pulled back out of my face and no make up.  I personally don't care what I look like (and DH is not going to be worrying about whether I am presentable or not) when the baby arrives.  I just want to be comfortable.  The focus is going to be on the baby not me.

  • I did my hair and makeup when I was in labor with DD. It's not like you go to the hospital after you feel your first contraction, so it helped me pass the time while I was waiting to make sure it was the real thing. I'm sure I will do the same this time around. I don't leave the house without some kind of makeup on.

  • I will hopefully have time to shower, do something with my hair and put on makeup.  I would like to at least feel somewhat presentable on top - while having to lose all modesty for down below!
  • Definitely not me! I'll pull my hair up in a ponytail if it's long enough, and head in.

ETA: and I totally forgot to add in there that I'll shower first, then pull my hair up haha!
  • I *hope* to be able to do my hair in 2 braids (I have extremely long, thick hair), and maybe a little make-up.  I am NOT photogenic at all though, so I'm used to looking wierd in pictures. LOL

  • I am planning on taking a shower and at least attempting to do something with my hair. Makeup wise I may jus put on eye liner and mascara im just not sure if I want foundation on while its hot but if its not too bad ill put a light layer on

  • I'm honestly up in the air about it. I will probably have my hair done just because it's short and looks CRAZY if it isn't done.....but make-up, I'll probably wait until after my LO is here to put some on. Its a waste to put it on before, I mean it's going to all come off from sweating! lol
  • With my other 2 I showered and got ready like it was a normal day. It helped to pass the time. I skipped eye makeup and just went with a light foundation and lip gloss. I plan to do the same this time.

I will also reapply my makeup before visitors come in.

  • I will shower before going in and give the lady bits one last shave. Hair will be dried and in a pony tail or bun on top my head cause the last thing I like is it in my face when I am in labor. Makeup-I wear mineral makeup so I will just throw on some of that. I have false eyelash extensions which make my lashes look like i have mascara on and my eyeliner tattooed on so I always have non smear makeup. I'm good with that.

  • Wow I'm surprised at all the makeup plans.  No makeup during labor for me.  I might put a little on before the family comes to visit afterward, we'll see.  In terms of hair, mine is naturally wavy so I'll just shower in early labor & dry it with a diffuser.

    This!

Call me vain, but this. Mostly I'll want to go in feeling clean and I think showering and drying my hair will help distract me in early labor. I have naturally oily skin and scalp so I want to start as clean as possible. I'll bring some powder or something for when the pictures start.
  • I put in my contacts at 8cm dilated w/DD#2 as well as put on a little  makeup.  I had been in the hospital overnight & had an epi, so I was totally comfortable.  It didn't take long & I felt so much more like 'myself' in my contacts (I hate my glasses) and a little touch up so I didn't look so bad in pics :)
  • I'm a Southern girl, and we aren't known for leaving the house to get the mail without makeup on!

I'll definitely shower, do my hair and put makeup on before heading to the hospital.  I keep up with the shaving and all that normally, so I'm good to go there.  My bags are packed and we're ready when she is.  :)

  • just [ut on make up probabaly because i dont wanna end up looking very very exhausted and trashed on LOs firs ever pic with me! and our first family picture too. haha =) i sooooo warned DH that if i forget my make up kit back home before delivering, he would really have to go home and get it!

i love you, my little mooncake mahal kita

  • Make-Up? Eh...I only wear eyeliner sometimes but i will pack it for afterwards when people come to visit & all. My hair I haven't decided yet its natrually curly but i do straighten it sometimes. But when it's straight it refuses to stay all tied up. & I hate my hair in my face so im pretty sure ill hate it during L&D. But when its curly i have to have gel, mouse, & hair spray to keep it tamed & im not sure im gonna be in the mood to do all that. So whatever my hair looks like its going to be like that! lol

THIS!  I have a scheduled c/s though and I doubt I'll be up for doing anything afterwards for a while.  I do have to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. though so make-up will not be full on.  But, I also know that DH will post pics in FB and I don't want to be seen without being what I consider presentable for myself either!
