Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Baby wearers: please rec your carrier

I wasn't much of a baby wearer with DS #1 but I think I'll have to be with #2 since DS will be 18 months when s/he is born and I'll have to keep up with him.  I have a Bjorn-type carrier that I was never a huge fan of, I'm looking for something more sling-like.  And a cute pattern wouldn't hurt either. :)

TIA!

  • Lots of ppl love the Moby. DS didnt like it and got hot quickly.

We LOVE the Ergo...also a ring sling might be a great option for you.

  • I just wrote this out for someone else's post, so I'm just going to copy and paste.  Also, congrats on the pregnancy!!

    We have a few:

Ergo.  We all love it (including DD).  No cons.  Easy to use, no learning curve, fits us both well.

Ring Slings (we have three).  DH hasn't used it, but I love them.  They are my go-to carrier for when out and about.  All of mine are from SleepingBabyProductions and are awesome.  I can wear my 10 month old for hours without pain.  They are really easy to use once you get the hang of it, but there is a bit of a learning curve.

Woven wrap (we have two).  Again, DH isn't brave enough to try them, but I really love them for around the house.  I put DD in a high back carry and get so much work done.  I've just started to get brave enough to use them when we're out if I have something to do (like last night I helped to set up at a banquet.  I just put DD on my back and was able to help).  Cons would be: they are pretty expensive, but they will last you literally forever.  A pretty big learning curve (at least for me, because I never had a Moby.  You might find them easier).  Other than that they're awesome!  They are definitely the most versatile carriers there are.  You can do so many carries with them.  I got both mine from PieceofCloth.

We have more, but these are the ones used and loved most.  Hope that helps a little!

ETA: The best thing you can do is find a story that carries a bunch of carriers and try them on to figure out what works best for you.  GL!

A local woman makes these and they're really affordable and I like that they have little holes for the legs.  She demonstrated one for me with my son and it was really easy and I felt safer wrapping him in.

  • I could not live without my BabyHawk. Plus, they have TONS of cute patterns you can customize your own with.
  • We love our Beco. We also had a Moby but it was such a pain to put on and DS didn't like it at all.
  • I bought an Ergo, but ended up returning it because DD wanted to face forward and the Ergo can't be worn like that.  I exchanged it for a Pikkolo and love it!

We love our Beco - but we've also borrowed an Ergo from a friend and loved that, too.

For the newborn stage, we loved the Moby.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my BabyHawk.  It is easy, comfy, not-too-hot, and pretty.  DD loves it, too.  She can be sitting on the floor crying and when she notices me holding it, she starts to squeal and kick her legs and wave her arms excitedly.

If you are interested in this, try to find a place to try it on to see if you like it, and then order it on the BabyHawk website.  You can customize it with one or two different patterns (reversible) and get a pocket and toy ring added to it...

Ditto this.  I hated the moby and the maya wrap (ring sling) never felt secure enough.  I also didn't love the ergo

I found the website www.thebabywearer.com to be very helpful
