1st Trimester

When are you starting your registries?

1st time mom, 1st trimester, and I know its a little early to think about it, but I'm kinda an organized person....and i have NO IDEA what I need to register for, so I'd like to think about it early. When are you all planning on "window-shopping"?

Re: When are you starting your registries?

  • We started ours at 16 weeks, and everything we registered for was gender neutral.  We added girly items to it later on  once we found out the sex.

  • Not going to start shopping until 2nd tri and probably not registering (if we even do that) until end of 2nd tri beginning of 3rd tri.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  •  this site was helpful in picking what you'll need. Remember, you'll most likely get a lot of clothes so no need to really register for outfits.

  • Oooohh, I LOVE "window shopping".  I stroll though the baby area of any store I'm in, but I won't actually purchase or register for awhile yet, probably closer to the end of the second trimester.  Window shop all you want though - that's how you know what you will want to register for.  I found a battery operated nasal aspirater yesterday at WalMart... cool!  First time I'd see one of those!

  • DH and I began a small registry around 18/19 weeks. We went in and played with the travel systems and registered for the small stuff - towels, wash clothes, bath stuff, etc. We added bigger items later on.
  • I have no idea when we will start ours, but I LOOOVE looking at everything baby related wherever I go! I already know what stroller I want, and in what color (gender neutral).  I think maybe we'll do it sometime this summer, right after we find out the sex maybe?

  • My husband and I are going to The Bay to pick out a friends wedding gift from her registry and while we're there I'd like to do some window shopping myself. :)

I'm not sure when the right time is, but probably a few weeks before you plan to have a shower. People will probably start asking you, much like a wedding registry I'd think.

We're waiting until at least 20 weeks, but I've been bookmarking items as I come across them.

This is what I did the first time around. I think I went into babies r us to actually make the registry around 25 weeks.

  • I think we are doing ours  pretty early - as in within the next week or two.   DH is in  the military and will be heading out soon for quite a while.  I want him to be involved with as  much as  possible.

  • Lesson I learned with my first pregnancy. You think 9 month is plenty enough time to prepare and buy for baby but it comes alot faster than you think.  I've already picked up a few diapers and whipes( Sometimes I can find a sale for 2 packs for the same price) And we have already started looking at furniture and getting an idea of what we want and a idea for budget. We put back money every week for baby!!!
  • I already have an idea of certain things that I want. DH and I are big researchers and I have a handful of friends who just had babies who are a wealth of information about what I need vs. what I don't need.

I will start my registry in early July because I think MIL's family is planning a shower in mid-August.

yeah, a friend of mine was pregnant about 2 yrs ago & mentioned buying diapers throughout her pregnancy to help spread out the cost. i'm thinking of doing that, but i'm also very interested in cloth diapers. i think i will need some disposable for travel, tho, and i don't know how many of each size i should stockpile or what brand. a lot of my husband's coworkers who recently had babies seem to love Costco brand, which is a good start b/c Costco has good prices. plus, who knows, i might not really like cloth diapering.

we are also researchers, so that's why i think i need to start early, at least on researching the items b/c i don't have the benefit of previous experience. its a live-n-learn & i'm loving it!!

I am building my CD stash now - I know that everyone is different, and different diapers work for everyone, so I am trying to pick fitteds that get great reviews by everyone. It's tough, but I don't want to spend the money when the LO gets here, because I'm sure I'll have plenty of other things to buy for him/her.

  • We went out today and started looking at things, especially furniture, and we'll probably register a bit earlier than most - probably early in the 2nd tri.  Mostly because we're both teachers, and we'll go back in the fall when I'm about 18 weeks.  I'm worried that with my teaching load next year, I won't have much energy to get out on weekends and spend a day or more creating a registry.  We may register before the end of 1st tri for some things, if we end up telling MIL over the phone rather than waiting until we're in NYC to see her in July - because she'll probably want to throw together a small, family shower while we're there if she knows.  So much to think about!

  • Me and DH are already window shopping. :) It makes me feel like I am doing something other than taking prenatal vitamins and sleeping.

I think I am going to talk to my family before I register for too much (and I probably won't register until mid 2nd tri). We live far from basically all our family, so that is going to make all the gift giving tricky. Start talking to other moms to see what was useful and what they could have lived without.

We already have a nursery theme picked out...woodland. It was picked out over a year ago when we started trying. Gender neutral and cute. (plus my favorite animal is an owl). :)

  • We'll probably register around 20 weeks, but I've been looking around a lot. We already got our crib - early I know, but I finally found something I liked, so I just went for it. :) We have a few other things picked out, but just slowly making a mental list of things I'd like to have.

  • We aren't starting our registry until after our anatomy u/s on the 26th of this month. We've picked up a few minor things here and there, but the majority of our purchases will begin after our scan.
