XP: Need nursery design help

I'm doing a bright nursery based on this print:

Glider is an orangey red (but kind of muted...we chickened out so that we could use it in another room later) and I have two 50's style modern dressers that I am painting a deeper teal...the inside drawers will be lime (to make me happy!)...similar to this:

and I will be finalizing and printing this out postersize after he is born:

Now...my question...I also made these prints (and have one more that is a giraffe and is shades of brown and yellow from the print:

The cream mat that the frame came with looks bad, in my opinion...what would you do? Am I being silly?  Is the cream fine?

Would you rework the animal prints so that they have a colored background in some way?

Would you attempt to cut a new mat yourself?  (I'd rather not go have new professional mats cut...money is getting tight.)

Would you cover the mat with some scrapbook paper?  And if so..what color would you use that could tie all of the colors together?

Re: XP: Need nursery design help

  • scrapbook paper could work, just be careful about adding in TOO MUCH color...

    I'm thinking maybe a green?

where did you find that print for the birth details???

I saw something similar online somewhere and made it myself in Adobe Illustrator :)  I wonder if something like the grey in the print would be a good, neutral mat that wouldn't clash with the white and all the colors?
  • fabric also works to cover mats, and leaves no seams like scrap book paper if done right. There are so many options too that will combine all the colors you want in the nursery...

Fabric!!  you are a genius!!  would you just use a spray adhesive to prevent the mat from curling?
  • I cant remember for sure how I did it before, but I think I just used glue on the back side only, so you couldnt see it under the fabric on the front. I remember being worried about the glue dis-coloring the fabric too.... but it ended up not.. I know I pulled it really tight so there was no wrinkles, but not enough that it bent the mat. I actually think I might of used hot glue too (on the back only) but Im sure any sort of stronger glue then elmers would work.... :)
