Couch to 5k: Friday Check In

IF c25k Check-In

How'd everyone do this week? Fill us in on your progress and pitfalls. (((Hugs))) all around for keeping it up! And good luck to Ohiostategal, she'll be running/walking in a 5k tomorrow!

Question of the Day: How do you reward yourself after an especially good workout/ week?

Inspirational Quote of the Week: "If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run."
- John Bingham

Re: Couch to 5k: Friday Check In

  • Oh how I miss running..it is one of my few life's passions.  Good luck ladies!!!  I can't wait until I safely have a LO snuggled in and can hit the pavement again.

  • This is my 1st time posting for the c25k but I'm currently week 5, day 3. This week was a little rough since the program kicked it up a bit. I'm currently training for a Duathlon (running/cycling). I have the cycling part down but needed to start from scratch on the running.

This week, I did a brick workout where I ran and cycled. It definitely left me feeling like jello.

I like to reward myself with a Vanilla protein shake blended with FroYo and some type of seasonal fruit.

  • Rough, but expected as it's been very stressful.

On to week 5 next week! I'm shocked that it's halfway over.

Reward: running-related purchases, but I'm getting a pair of much coveted ankle boots after I finish the 20 minute, no break run.

    GOOD LUCK OHIO!!!     HAVE FUN!!!!

  • Awww, thanks!  I just started back this week and went to week 2.  It was a little hard getting back on the horse but hopefully it will get easier.  The 5k this weekend is at a park that has crazy hills.  Not sure what I was thinking when I registered except that it was a cook t-shirt!  Smile  I will let you guys know how it goes!

QOTD:  I reward myself by clothes shopping.  It is also just a good motivation.  When I feel like I might want to start slipping a little I go to ta store and try on a cute dress.  It helps me realize that the work is so worth it when I find myself going a size smaller or finally fitting into a certain top.

  • I was a little bit of a slacker this week...Monday I had to skip my workout because I needed my lunchbreak for a meeting. Tuesday and Wednesday I did week 5 the second workout which is two 8 minute runs. Thursday was my IUI so no working out. Today I forgot my stuff.

To reward myself I give myself weekends off if I do well during the week.

How do you ladies handle the 2WW in regards to working out? Last cycle my RE office told me not to bring my heart rate about 140. So I don't think C25K is reasonable (as my heart rate reaches over 180 at points. I was thinking of just walking during the 2WW but I hate to lost all my progress I have made.

you can keep me on starting week 1- I still haven't started- but I blame the distractions of puppy cuteness for not wanting to leave the house LOL

Does carting around 35lbs combined weight of puppies count as exercise?  B/c I'm counting it as weights.  hehe

Ohiostategirl!!  Good luck!  That's awesome that you're in a 5k tomorrow

GL tomorrow!! You will do great! I find the adrenaline of doing an actual race helps push me more than my daily workouts! Can't wait to see how you do! :)

    YAY for week 5 !!

I don't have any restrictions except for no baths/swimming/hot tubs after the IUI. And during my only BFP cycle, I was backpacking the high peaks... I sort of feel like it depends on what is "normal" activity for you but I defer to medical opinion.

Thanks! I actually am not sure if I will pick back up with the C25K or not. I think I may just get my butt out there and walk more. My knees and feet where not happy with me whne I was doing the C25K and my podiatrist told me I really should just walk instead of running. We will see...

A lot of time I walk at the pace where I could be jogging instead if I wanted.  I feel like I get the same amount of exercise but it isn't as hard on my knees.  Just power walk!

See my thinking is that people get pregnant all the time while exercising so I was thinking maybe if I just kept on doing the week 5 day 2 like I was doing (or even maybe cutting back to the week 4 workout or week 5 day 1). However part of me says I will beat myself up if BFN, but then again if I dont do it and get a BFN I will be upset I lost my progress.

I'll make my decision on Monday I guess.

Personally, my biggest challenge is the pounding so I'd be happy to jog at a low HR, plus I think it's important to continue the habit of setting time aside to exercise. Your fitness level isn't going to tank if you take it easier for a couple of weeks. I'd see if it were OK to continue w5d2 at lesser intensity.

IMHO your body will quickly regain any lost cardio or strength fitness. You can count on that. Getting KU, less reliable (at least for me).

Hmmmmm.....is this for every 2ww or just medicated 2ww?

    Good luck Monday!

  • So I am super excited because I did all 8 running intervals for week 1 today!!! OK so I cheated a little and did longer cool down walks, but this was the first time I have done all 8 intervals.

I am going to keep doing week1 through next week in the hopes of upping my stamina and endurance. Then I am thinking I will move onto week 2 the following week. Or attempt to.

QOTD: My gym is right next door to a Starbucks so after a really good workout I go get a green iced tea, also I always make sure I am done with my workouts in time to get home and watch an episode of Buffy while I get ready for work.

My RE never gave any restrictions on 2ww, but I know I would have felt nervous even doing week 1 in the 2ww. I would keep walking or maybe jogging at a slower pace. I agree with pp, setting aside the time to do something active is a good idea so you don't get out of the habit. hopefully none of this will matter because you will be PG and not have to workout for the next 9 months!

You are doing great! I think it's smart to do week one a few times. I think that's what we will do too.
