or something in between.
DS has a hard time napping since he has left his crib about 10 months ago. He will nap but only I can rock him for a long time first, which I can only do when the baby is asleep. If I leave him for quiet time- he doesn't nap or I should say he will very rarely will nap. He just plays for a while and also makes a mess of his room, which then we have to fight with him to clean.
I was thinking of getting a colorful tent for his room and only letting him go in it (at first) at nap/quiet time. I thought I would put lots of blankets, pillows and books it. I'd come up with a cute name for it and have it be a fun, somewhat enclosed place for him to go for quiet time where he'd hopefully sleep. He definitely still needs a nap. When he does sleep he sleeps 3-4 hours. When he doesn't he is a bear by 6 and asleep by 7.
Do you think this would work, I could tell him to stay in there until quiet time was over. We never got off on the right foot with enforcing he stay in his bed during quiet time, but maybe this would work and be thought of in a more positive, special light.
WDYT?
Re: Does this sound like a good idea or completely ridiculous...
Last summer when DD #2 was born, we had this issue w/DD #1 (who was almost 3 at the time). DH used an enormous cardboard box we had from something or other and turned it into a "fort" for her. She got to color it and put stickers on it. She'd take pillows/blankets in there for quiet time every afternoon and 9 times out of 10 she'd fall asleep. She LOVED it.
Unfortunately I did not love an enormous cardboard box in their room (they share a room) so it was a short lived solution..but by the time we removed it, she was totally on board w/ "quiet time."
