I've already started using it! At this age, it's more of just a breather for DS when he throws a tantrum. If I can't get him distracted and calmed down, I will put him in his playpen for a minute. He is always collected and happy when it's time to rejoin me in the living room. I think he needs a second to decompress when he's over stimulated.
Our doc suggested we start introducing them at 18 months. We did....it took him a good month or two to "get it" and actually stay in time out, but now he does without crying and usually just one reminder that his actions will result in time stops him. We only have maybe 1 time out a week at most now. Love it!
I've been trying them for quite a few months now. He doesn't take them seriously. He gets up from the chair I put him in over and over and over again. I pick him up and put him back each time and it still doesn't work. I think I'm going to hold off and try again in a few months.
I have a friend who has a son that's 6 weeks younger than Ben and she's been doing time outs with him since he was about a year old. I've seen it in action and he just sits there and doesn't move. I just think different kids react to them differently.
I recently started it and so far it is working well. Yesterday, DD was misbehaving and I told her that if she didn't stop she was going to timeout. She stopped what she was doing and went to the corner. I tried not to laugh, but thought it was hilarious.
I started right when he turned 2 and it was a joke. He didn't even care or get it. I started up again now that he's almost 2 and half and it's really working great. I think it depends on the kid and how much patience you have with bringing them back to the time out if they don't stay there.
