FIL visiting . . . for how long?

SIL called for mother's day, and she mentioned that FIL, who lives in Philadelphia, was coming back from his yearly trip to Colombia and had a short layover in Miami on Wednesday.  Short as in 5 hours.  (He does this sometimes.  We always tell him to make it a few days so he can visit, and he forgets.)

Anyhow, so we went to the airport on Wednesday after work with the kids, to have at least a few hours to visit with him, and DH and I convinced him to change his ticket and stay a few days here.  Well, we went up to the counter (had to go to a few people to figure out where to go), and they said there's no way to change it b/c he had already checked in for his flight that night.  So DH said, that's okay, we'll just buy him a new one way ticket home (to Philadelphia) online when we get home. He said he needed it to be a Saturday so BIL who lives in Philly can pick him up at the airport.

That was on Wednesday.  It's Friday, and I asked DH if he had bought a new ticket yet, and he said no.  So when is he going home??  DH had to go to work and we haven't had a chance to discuss.  I love FIL, but I really would like to know how long this visit will be!  Obviously, he's not leaving tomorrow, so that means another week, I guess.  He's sleeping in Cedric's room, and Cedric is sleeping in the extra bed in Graciela's room, and so far it's been okay, but still. Cedric has woken up crying both nights and DH has had to get up and comfort him back to sleep in the living room.  Not ideal, but not a big issue, either.

I know that if I check the flights and tell them to DH, he'll think I'm trying to get rid of his dad.  My family has visited us a lot more than his has (a LOT more), so I kind of feel like I can't say anything.  But still.  Maybe I should just check the flights out. . .

I dunno.  Any thoughts?

  • hahahaha.  Good one, Beth.  That would certainly be incentive.

Good news.  I clicked onto expedia just to see, and the search form was already pre-filled with a search for flights from Ft Lauderdale to Phila for next Saturday.  So I guess that's what he was thinking.  That's good.  I can handle a week.  And even better, the flights are cheap--like $150--since they're only one way.

    Yay!

  • Glad you got your answer... and if tries to extend the stay, then go w/ Gator's advice.  : )

That's great news!  I find sometimes that DH already has a plan for things but just hasn't shared them with me yet, lol.  So, that's what I was going to respond to your initial post. It also sounds like your FIL is not the type to impose since he usually only visits during the layover.

    GL!

  • Thanks, ladies!  He is really good about not imposing.  Too good, sometimes, hence his short layover visits.  But on the other hand, when Cedric was born, he stayed for over 2 weeks and had booked his trip without even asking either of us.  Just odd to me.
